When you live in a property to have two choices, you can keep it as a purely functional space, where you eat, sleep, and perhaps work from home. Or, you can personalize it, making it a comfortable place to relax and appreciate life.

The first option simply requires you to add furniture to a space. The second is more satisfying and rewarding. But, it also means decorating the space before you add furniture, and then you’ll want to add the finishing touches.

All finishing touches are personal; it’s what works for you and your family. It’s also the best way to add your own style to the different rooms in your home.

Here are some great ideas to accessorize your home with style.

Choose Rugs

There are plenty of great rugs on the market to choose from. You need to consider which room the rugs are going into as this will help to ensure you get the right material. The higher the foot traffic the more durable the rug needs to be.

Rugs also come in an array of colors, textures, patterns, shapes, and sizes. Choose your preferred option carefully as it will make a statement in any room. A good rug will also warm the space and add character.

Hang Things On The Walls

The traditional approach is to find a beautiful work of art and hang it on the wall. It shows the room is finished, creates something for people to look at and comment on, and can be a nice addition.

But, it is not the only option as the things you choose to hang on the walls must be personal. That means you can create a picture wall of family and loved ones or you can cover it with candles.

If you prefer you can add dolls or masks for specific countries or time periods. The options are endless.

All you have to remember is that the finishing touches you add to the walls are personal, and you don’t need to overdo them. You want the wall to look attractive, not cluttered.

The Smaller Features

Nothing says that your home is loved and stylishly finished better than a few simply placed finishing accessories. For example, a nice tray on the coffee table, a vase of flowers, coasters, and even a few books carefully positioned tell others what you like. They also show that the room is finished and comfortable, helping people to feel relaxed.

The best small features are those that mean something to you and are actually used.

Light It Up

To add style and ambiance you need to think about your lighting. The best approach is to choose a light fitting that reflects your tastes and is appropriate for the room you’re in.

But, as well as choosing stylish light fittings, you need to think about adding dimmer switches, they can really improve the ambiance in any room.

Don’t Forget Plants

Plants are a great finishing touch as they add color and bring the outside inside. It’s the perfect way of lifting your spirits and you have the added bonus of improving the air quality in your home.
