Blogging Challenge Day #23: “What are your plans or hopes for Christmas next year?”

I have learned not to make plans for too far in the future, and when one speaks of hopes, I can only hope the person does not mean some kind of ethereal hope that is nothing but apple-pie-in-the-sky.  I have visions, dreams, and more for the future, and I have declared various things that I am convinced will happen. But let me talk about next Christmas, December 25, 2021.

More than anything, my prayer is that COVID will be done. I don’t say that because I’m living in fear. I don’t say that because I know that eradicating this disease is a sure-fire end to pain and suffering. I don’t go into 2021 with a kind of “Pollyanna” mindset that life is suddenly going to reset itself just because the calendar is turning over to a new year. I humbly pray that COVID is done by Christmas next year so that families can be fully together with many of the activities we love that will be available to us yet again.

Speaking of Christmas next year, I plan on attending Christmas Cons, concerts, plays, etc., that were canceled this year. I am ready to enjoy the holiday season and take advantage of every experience I can on my own and with family.

My daughter will be in her first year of college, so I pray she can come home for the holidays and have a relaxing time with friends and family.

Many of my hopes revolve around others, but let’s just say that I plan on next Christmas being the second year of a new beginning for me this year. I don’t look at 2020 as all bad. It has been a challenge at times, but the blessings have overflowed in such a variety of ways. I am focused on enjoying this Christmas and expectant for what the new year will bring.

I thought I understood the meaning of hitting the ‘reset’ button, but 2020 has given me the chance to redefine it.
And so for 2021 I will look forward to and appreciate spontaneity – seeing family, friends, getting back to my workplace – just interacting with people. I miss that and I won’t take it for granted. Here’s to 2021!

Next year will be very different. My two older sons will graduate from college in May. The oldest will have a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, he’s already married, but he lives nearby. My middle son will graduate with honors and three undergrad degrees (Finance, Math, and Economics), plus an accelerated Master’s degree in Finance. He’ll be moving to Dallas for a job. It will just be three of us–my husband, youngest son, and myself–for the holidays next year.
