It seems that losing weight and living a healthy life are two concepts that bombard our media on a consistent basis. I grew up in a family where most people are overweight, and everything revolved around eating. I went on my first diet when I was in middle school. In fact, it was as a result of my aunt telling me that I was overweight, something I had never considered until she brought it up.
I have fought my weight most of my life, but shortly after the birth of my daughter (who is now sixteen) and my subsequent divorce, I decided it was time to make a change for the sake of my daughter. For well over ten years, I have been close to my ideal weight as a result of changing my concept of “diet” to a change in lifestyle. I realized that exercise combined with healthy eating was the key to weight loss and keeping that weight off.
One of the problems I have had, however, is I tend to get hungry in the evening. So many health gurus tell you not to eat after this or that time, but I found that going to bed hungry just didn’t do well for me. After all, I exercise in the evenings, so why would I not choose to eat in the evening?
Another goal I wish to implement is that of losing those last few pounds that my body doesn’t tend to want to shed. I may not be at my ideal weight after four weeks, but I am certainly going to try my best. More than anything, I want to feel healthy and have more energy because after all, I do believe there are more important things than maintaining my ideal weight.
I was so happy to get the opportunity to participate in this blog campaign where I have received an advance copy of Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. Over the next month, I am going to be reviewing this book while sharing my experience with this book and program. I hope all my readers will join me as I detail what I’ve learned and how it has helped me live a healthier and less hungry life!
Just like the author, Joel Marion, states in his book:
- “Research shows that the average person’s metabolic rate is no different during sleep than during the day. In short, your metabolism doesn’t slow down at night. Nor does your body store fat at the end of the day. Whether it’s 8 am or 8 pm, you use food for energy the same way.”
This is something that I had never heard until this book came along, and I’m happy to read this. I’m glad to know that my metabolism doesn’t slow down because somehow, it never seemed to make sense. Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.
From the very beginning, the author drew me in! I understand the struggle he describes in his introduction. Additionally, I also agree with his concept of diet rules that are meant to be broken! Yes, how nice to read this in a health/fitness book like this. I am extremely tired of being told that I have to follow these ten steps or whatever to lose the extra ten pounds I still tend to carry around with me. When things get too structured, I find that I tend to rebel, and this is a book that frees me from the restrictive rules. Moreover, he’s a busy guy, and he gets it! If he can do it while maintaining an insane schedule, I would venture to say anyone can do it!
Please be sure to come back next week and check my progress, but in the meantime, please check out this video by the author, Joel Marion.
