In this day and age, leaving vital things in one’s business or company to chance is just like going to Las Vegas and rolling the dice. Perhaps your company will do everything right, but in the event you don’t, you may be out more than you planned. Failure to comply with all regulations is something that is not worth the risk. Fines and penalties can be quite severe, so when planning for potential pitfalls and other issues in one’s business or practice, it is a good idea to not skimp where PCI and HIPAA are concerned.

First of all, what exactly are PCI and HIPPA and how may they affect you or your company? Both of these are important acronyms to understand in full, and pcihipaa reviews are certainly one way to help in your understanding of why these may be important to you and your company. But before you do that, it may be beneficial to do some research to fully comprehend these two items.

PCI stands for “Payment Card Industry,” and it is the data security standard. If your company deals with any kind of bank account and/or credit cards, chances are you have heard the term, and you are expected to know what is included in this term and all of its specifications. Everyone is aware of the fact that data breaches are something that happens now and then, and PCI has a set of prescriptive resolutions to not only ensure security, but it details how you are expected to be secure. It is the main industry standard in terms of data, credit cards, and financial transactions of any kind.

All too often, the news is inundated with data breaches, and sometimes we tend to think that is an industry standard. Nothing could be further from the truth. If a company is PCI compliant as it is required to be, data breaches are a distinct rarity. It is always possible that they may happen, but if your company maintains the correct compliance standard, the chance of security breaches will be quite low.

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It is something that directly and extensively affects healthcare providers across the United States. Again, this is something that needs to be investigated thoroughly in order for you to understand if these regulations affect your specific company or organization. If your business happens to handle protected health information, more than likely, HIPAA will directly affect you. But it is imperative that you do the research because not being compliant with HIPAA can lead to very serious consequences for you and your business.

The most important thing to realize as you are probing through the copious information about this topic is that reliance on assumptions is to be avoided at all costs. Just like we cannot trust everything we read on the internet, hearsay and incomplete explanations can lead to serious consequences for your business that could have been avoided with intuitive and timely research on your part. Don’t be afraid to do the necessary legwork to guarantee that if your company is expected to be PCI HIPAA compliant, that it is in every sense of the word, rather than merely in name only.
