The world of online retail is growing each year. So, if in 2016 we had 1.66 billion digital buyers at a global level, in 2021 it is expected that the number of people who do their shopping online will reach 2.14 billion (according to statista.com)!

Furthermore, due to new technologies, retailers have different ways to charge for their products. Since prices are no longer on display on a shelf, retailers are free to practice what’s called dynamic pricing. This technique takes advantage of the cookies stored on a user’s computer by learning about his/her online behavior before displaying the price, offers, or possible discounts.

The differences are not high, but it is not fair that you would be charged more just because you are a bit less careful with the way you spend your money.  Furthermore, even sites that offer access to discounts and coupons practice some of these sneaky techniques.

In all fairness, most discount sites use cookies to improve user experience, but it may help to know how to use them to your advantage. That’s why, below, we listed six techniques used by coupon websites.

#1: Set Your Preferences

Some coupon sites allow users to create an account, set some profile information (favorite brands and retailers) and even save coupons for later use. This is quite convenient for the user, as the site will earn your preferences and start to display offers from the retailers you selected.

Still, this can be a disadvantage as well, because you may miss some great discounts on other brands. So, from time to time, use the site without being logged in.

#2: Useful Tips in Blog Posts

Sites use blog posts as a way to attract more readers, so most coupon websites will also have a blog where users can find useful tips. However, because we’re all living busy lives, reading blog posts about discounts may not pique everyone’s interest.

But we recommend you read these blog posts because, most often than not, they have great tips and guides on the upcoming best offers.

#3: Niche Coupon Websites

Whether it’s a stand-alone site or a subdomain of a parent site, some online pages are created for a specific niche. Some are even more specific, by addressing only certain brands.

These make your job a lot easier since you don’t have to dig through hundreds of offers and coupons from all sorts of brands. For instance, if you’re looking for a new mattress, you can visit the latest Novosbed Coupon here and learn about all their active campaigns.

#4: Social Media Use

This technique is mostly practiced by brands and retailers, but there are some coupon sites that use it as well. Basically, they use social media channels to reward followers with some pretty special deals.

So, if you want to make sure you’re not missing out on anything, you should follow their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts.

#5: Newsletters are Important

The same goes for newsletters (even though you hate having your inbox bombarded by all sorts of offers). Our recommendation is to have a separate email address that you use only for coupon and discount websites. This way, you can check it once in the evening without disrupting your usual email address.

#6: Combine to Get the Best Deal

Finally, the one thing most coupon sites won’t tell you is that you can combine coupons with discount codes, and sales. This usually means you’ll have to do some extra research work, but it may be worth it. Sometimes, you can even get a 70% discount on a product that’s usually out of reach most of the year!
