Bitter ChocolateBitter Chocolate by Dawn Greenfield Ireland

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The best feature of this book is that the characters are so colorful and oftentimes quirky that the reader is certain to find at least one that they will enjoy. And that is exactly what I did. I did read the first book in the series, and while it is possible to read this book without the former book, I recommend getting a proper foundation in the first book.

For me, I absolutely loved Teddy and Tilly. In fact, I could have easily read an entire series about them alone. Bambi was an intriguing character in the first book, and, of course, she continued to be so in this book. I was not too keen on Bernie–some will find him delightful since he is a “dirty, old man.”

The profanity was far less in this book (even though there wasn’t much in the first book), and the mystery is quite clever yet again. It was quite a perceptive move on the part of the author to include a family tree so that the reader could keep the characters straight. I could have done without the increased allusions to astrology and spiritism, but thankfully, these references were minimal and often discounted. All things considered, this was a somewhat engaging companion to the first book in the series.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
