Don’t miss this feel-good story of faith, courage, grit, and unlikely alliances for a teen on the autism spectrum. You will come away inspired!
Have you ever found yourself trying to get the approval of a parent? If not, you like ly know someone who has. That’s where Tyson, a teen with autism, finds himself as he watches his hero father lead the high school football team. Tyson’s Run is not only relatable, but also a beautiful picture of the rewards of dreams, determination, and relationships when we don’t quit.
Four-time Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams recorded If You Be lieve, an original song, just for Tyson’s Run.
Tyson’s Run is a movie we can all relate to. Tyson’s longing to be accepted by his father leads him to push himself further than anyone might have thought possible. Ultimately, it is a heart-warming story of overcoming odds, changing perceptions, and of love winning. Don’t miss it on March 11th!
Synopsis: When fifteen-year-old Tyson attends public school for the first time, his life is changed forever. While helping his father clean up after the football team, Tyson befriends champion marathon runner Aklilu. Never letting his autism hold him back, Tyson becomes determined to run his first marathon in hopes of winning his father’s approval.
With the help of an unlikely friend and his parents, Tyson learns that with faith in yourself and the courage to take the first step, anything is possible.
My Thoughts: It seems that whenever I go see a movie, I see lots of diversity. I can’t turn on my TV set without seeing every ethnicity, religion, race, creed, and even sexual orientation imaginable. And I’m not necessarily complaining about this because I have always been a champion of diversity.
But in my opinion, there is too little in the entertainment world today that is focused on children (and people) with disabilities. Yes, it’s getting better. The Good Doctor and others have shifted our focus to make discussing these disabilities something that is “okay” to talk about.
But then a movie like Tyson’s Run comes along, and I am blown away! Yes, this is the kind of movie that I desire to see! I want a more real focus on the struggle that kids with disabilities have, and showing in a real way how they are treated, the family dynamics, their challenges, and their victories. My educator’s heart was crying out for this kind of story, and I am so glad someone had the foresight and the courage to bring it forward!!
In the world of diversity, this is an area where more focus is required. I was a music teacher, and there is nothing I loved more than working with my special education students. My class was often the one class where the assigned para-educator could take a break, and I regularly saw these students soar in unbelievable ways.
This movie has such an amazing story with uplifting themes to which all families can relate. Who hasn’t felt different from their peers? And to witness the struggles and triumphs of Tyson and how he affects the world around him…thank you to everyone involved with this movie! May this be the first of many more like this.
Oh, and as a bonus, this is a family-friendly story without language and gratuitous violence. Well done!
