In our household, stockings have ALWAYS been a big deal. When my mom had her own knitting machine business, she knitted stockings for the entire family(our pets, too!).
Over the years, we replaced our stockings at different times. We used to have a beautiful, old fireplace in our Victorian home in Tacoma, Washington, and hanging the stockings on that mantle was always a lovely memory. Our mobile home doesn’t have that antique fireplace now, but we still have stockings.
My mom used to go ALL OUT on stocking stuffers. (What am I talking about? She still does!!) She always tries to get some items that are not too expensive and fun. And it used to be my job to fill the stockings with the candy she bought. And this woman used to buy Christmas candy like nobody’s business! And then she realized if she bought Halloween candy after that holiday, it was cheaper, so…it’s been interesting!!
Now that we are much healthier, candy is virtually nonexistent. So what do we put in the stockings? A wide variety of things! Toiletries, stuffed animals, healthy foods, CDs, DVDs, books, socks, hair accessories, makeup…the list goes on.
What is my favorite stocking stuffer? I’m gonna go with stuffed animals. Back in the day, we always made sure we had cute stuffed animals sticking out of the top of the stocking.
It was my job to stuff those stockings (yes, I even did my own from middle school on), and we loved seeing those cute holiday stuffed animals sticking out of the top of the socks! I don’t think we do that much anymore, but that’s still my favorite. I’m sure most of those stuffed animals are long gone now, but what a cute and fun memory!
