When it comes to Christmas decor, I am sure I could have posted many a thing. I have made some beautiful decorations over the years. I once made these very intricate snowmen for my mother. I had an unusual nativity scene. A village set that I made up all sorts of stories about! I loved as a child when I was growing up. Many beautiful Christmas ornaments that my mom and grandma painted over the years–they used to do ceramics. I could spend hours discussing my favorite Christmas decor.

But guess what? This may be my most favorite Christmas decoration of all! I have a story to go with it!!

I can remember when it was a novelty to have these electronic musical decorations. There was nothing better than visiting the store and playing every single one of them, but they were so expensive!

I am a sucker for carousel horses, and this decoration captured my attention. I was a teenager at the time. But my mom didn’t want to pay a hundred dollars for this decoration. So we decided to wait until the day after Christmas when it would be half price.

We hit the store early on the 26th, and there was one carousel horse decoration left. It was the display model, so it wasn’t perfect, but we didn’t care at half price! My mom bought it, and every year, it went on the mantel with our Christmas stockings. When I came home for Christmas, it was probably one of the first decorations I would play. Of course, I played all of them!!

As time has gone on, I had this decoration for a few years at my house. It has made its way back, but there is no ideal place to display this decoration anymore! So it sits in the box, but I refused to let my mom get rid of it last year when she asked.

One of these days, we will pull it out, and it will have the perfect spot again!

That carousel is too precious for you to get rid of.

My Santa collection is special. I have a lot of hand-carved Santas made by my late father-in-law. I have other Santas, too. I empty my jelly cupboard and fill it from top to bottom full of Santas.

Our perennial Christmas ornaments were a glitter-coated snowman whose hollow middle could be filled with sweets, and a ceramic Santa and Mrs Claus, who, due to the magnets inside their heads, would home in for a kiss when placed close together. I can still remember the audible click when they locked lips.
Both ornaments came from a cousin’s native France and although battered from long service, still come out of their boxes each year.

My favourite decoration is a snow globe – A really big snow globe with a Christmas tree inside with elves climbing it. Than the globe sits on a fire place with a fire mantle surrounding it and Santa with a stocking filled with presents and when you turn it on the fire roars. A dog is all curled up keeping warm.

Maddie and myself were shopping many years ago and it’s a decoration we choose together and one day it will be hers to hand down to her family. The beginning of a new tradition. Something l never had. A beautiful experience mother and daughter shopping and the beginning of a new tradition together
