5 Reasons Why Dance is Good for Kids

Mention dance, and many people immediately think of ballet and the classical dance moves. But, there are many different types of dance that children and adults can undertake. The key is to find the one that your child enjoys; it can help start them with preschool dance lessons.

What may surprise you is that dance lessons don’t just teach them to dance; they will also benefit them in 5 other key areas:

  1. Confidence

One of the greatest gifts you can give any child in life is confidence. It’s an essential attribute to aid success in everything you do. Having confidence in yourself allows you to try new things and achieve lofty heights.

Children often find their confidence is knocked as they go through their teenage years and become all legs. Dancing builds confidence in their abilities and their acceptance of their bodies. That’s a pretty powerful incentive to start dancing.

  1. Flexibility

Of course, dancing requires flexibility. If you’re not flexible, you won’t be able to bend and shake in all the right direction at the right times. Children are naturally flexible, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Teaching them to embrace their flexibility when young helps them carry flexibility with them through life. The result is a decreased risk of injuries later in life and better life quality.

  1. Social Skills

Dancing is seldom undertaken by yourself. It’s a beautiful way to move your body and express your inner thoughts or reflect the outer environment.

But, it’s also an opportunity to connect with others. In dance classes and even dancing on the streets, you’ll find kindred spirits. These create bonds that improve social skills and help you be prepared for any situation in the future.

Social skills are the ability to talk to others and interact with them without issue. The earlier your child learns these, the better for them and you.

  1. Exercise

Dancing is a form of exercise. In fact, some dance routines are far more strenuous than an hour working out in the gym. Exercise is essential at all ages of life to boost circulation and ward off unwanted infections and diseases. It’s not a complete cure, but exercising regularly will help your child to stay healthy.

This is a habit that needs to be carried through life. Teaching it to your children at a young age, through dance, is a great way of ensuring they exercise regularly and look after their bodies.

  1. Learning to be Expressive

Dance is expressive. You need to be able to express your emotions and let go when you dance. I fact, it’s good to be able to express yourself at many different times in your life. Learning to dance encourages children to release their emotions and explore their own expressiveness.

This gives them a channel to direct negative emotions and prevent them from detrimentally influencing their life.

If you’re still not convinced, give your child a couple of dance lessons, and you’ll start to notice the difference. It’s a great way to set them up for life.
