About the Book
Book: White Stick
Author: Jacqueline Middler
Genre: Memoir
Release Date: May 13, 2020
When a positive pregnancy test upends her carefree coed life, Jacqueline Marie decides to end the life of her unborn child. That abortion and the one that followed not only destroyed two lives but also wrecked Jacqueline’s soul.
Unprepared for the emotional wounds abortion inflicts, Jacqueline turns to drugs and alcohol to mask her pain, but nothing she does assuages her deep-seated guilt. When staying with relatives in Florida—intended to give her a fresh start—she hears the gospel message, and while reading the creation story and promises of God, she encounters a God who loves her despite her choices.
As she experiences God’s grace and forgiveness, Jacqueline is able to finally forgive herself. Now a doula and a voice for the unborn, she shares her story to help other women who have had abortions know that healing and redemption are possible through Jesus.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Q: Why did you decide to pursue a career as an author?
A: I wrote my first book in the second grade, a five-page picture book with little sentences. Through my years in school, I had a love/hate relationship with writing. In my 20 and 30’s I pursued many things but not writing. The desire to write a book was always there but it was a distant dream. When I would sit down to write I would feel overwhelmed. It wasn’t until my desire to be a voice for women like me and God’s purpose was shown that the words flowed freely.
Q: When you are writing, what does your daily schedule look like?
A: My schedule is something that is not set in stone. Feeling pressure or deadlines is a sure way for me to not be able to write. My life is still in the busy stage of raising kids. I have a husband, three kids, a puppy, and I am an independent contractor for a meeting planning company. Spending time in front of my computer for at least two hours a day writing is the goal. Sometimes I have a purpose in writing and sometimes I just make lists of ideas. However nothing is set in stone because the moment I am forced to write I feel like I cant do it.
Q: How do you choose the topic for your books?
A: For my first book the topic was chosen for me in the sense I felt a deep calling to share my experience with Abortion. My future topics are different ideas that I am thinking about. I usually make lists of topic ideas. Every time I write I may take a topic and write a paragraph or two about it. I have a deep desire to help women, especially teens and college students navigate the world.
Q: When researching the faith of people in history, what do you look for to determine how strong a person was in their faith in God?
A: Researching and thinking about people in the Bible is one of my favorite pastimes. I love reading fiction books that take these people and put them into more detailed stories. To determine the faith of a person I look at how much they were willing to trust God. Faith really comes down to trust. In our most difficult decisions, are we willing to trust he has a purpose and plan. David is a great example of this. He had many opportunities to kill Saul but instead he trusted/had faith God had a plan and would work out what he said he would do. David never took the control into his own hands; he had the faith to wait.
Q: What is one topic you would love to write a book about but have not been able to as of yet?
A: One of my desires is to write a fiction book about the 1000-year reign. As a reader I love fantasy books, I feel like there is so much we don’t know about this part of Jesus coming back that it would give an opportunity for someone to be creative with how things work. I hope to begin this book soon. However, I do find it hard to write fiction more so than nonfiction. With fiction everything has to work together whereas with nonfiction the facts are the facts and you are just giving your opinion on them.
More from Jacqueline
White Stick was written in hopes of freeing women from the bondage of shame and guilt that comes with the choice of Abortion. This book’s purpose is to shed light on the after effects of what this choice does to a women’s soul and life. This choice is not the quick decision or the “easier choice” that the media portrays but can effect every one of your choices after for the rest of your life. Only Gods love and Jesus’s grace can free you. I was a Christian many years before I was able to forgive myself. Until you forgive yourself it is hard to walk in the plans God has for you. You the reader are able to walk with me through my abortion to redemption. This is a raw honest look at the devastation this choice brings.
