About the Book

Book: You Are Loved & Free

Author: Micah Ruth

Genre: Nonfiction, Christian Purpose

Release Date: July 29, 2020

How do you gain your sense of worth and significance? Career? Kids? Marriage? Finances? Living in a culture where your achievements define you makes you prey to attacks on your very identity. But God values you regardless of your wins and losses and provides the tools in His Word to help you win the battle and rebuild your identity on His truth as you walk with Him into your purpose.

Born achiever Micah Ruth found herself questioning her value during a career demotion and personal crisis. Feeling like a failure and questioning her every move, Micah began listening to God as He led her to make major life changes and reassess the source of her worth. Through exploring the book of Ephesians, Micah uncovered the lies that held her captive and broke the self-inflicted chains of shame to ultimately experience deep soul transformation.

Micah weaves her story as inspiration for you to embark on your own journey of freedom and discovery. Devotionals, journal questions, and practical application prompts provide opportunities for you to remove your armor of self-reliance, grow in your faith, and reflect on your story. You Are Loved & Free also includes resources to help you discover your gifts and purpose while you cling to your newfound identity as a beloved and free child of God.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Q: Why did you decide to pursue a career as an author?

A: I have always loved to write, but I have never believed in myself as an author. But last year I went through that hard demotion experience (which is what the book is about) and God so clearly told me that it was time to step into the calling to write as I rebuilt my identity in Him.

Q: When you are writing, what does your daily schedule look like?

A: I write in the evenings or on Saturdays. Or silly early in the morning (like 4 am)when I hear from God to get up and write something. Mostly, I don’t write every day. I have a full-time corporate job, and three kiddos, so I have to make time to write. Mostly, I write on the trail, mountain biking, hiking or snowshoeing. I go out into God’s creation intentionally to hear from Him because that is where I hear from Him best. So I make time to go out and write on my phone notes app. Then I bring it back and turn it into something worth reading on the weekend or in the evening.

Q: When writing non-fiction, what kind of research do you normally have to do?

A: Bible study. I do a lot of Bible study. I took a ton of Biblical studies classes at Colorado Christian University as my electives when I got my associates. So I have a lot of Biblical study books and techniques. I also use the LOGOs Bible software. But most of the time, I let God speak to me through the Holy Spirit and his word and then when I get a word, I study, cross reference, read commentary, etc.

Q: How do you choose the topic for your books?

A: I live them. All my books and devotionals are about things God is teaching me on this crazy redemption journey He has me on.

Q: When writing non-fiction, how do you keep the books from becoming “textbook” renditions to make the stories come alive so people are interested in them?

A: I share the real and true pieces of my life. I never want to preach at people. I want them to know that I am broken and learning from God and that I just want to share what He is teaching me so they can learn to be more free in Him too!

Q: What is one topic you would love to write a book about but have not been able to as of yet?

A: I would love to write Christian fiction someday. Especially making the Bible characters come alive more. We need more Francine Rivers in the world. I have read and loved every single one of her books and honestly learned so much from them. It is easy for us to gloss over the fact that the people in the Bible were people. They had thoughts and feelings and hard emotions because they were humans. The Bible stories are so much more powerful when you think of them as real people!

More from Micah

Just after a devastating demotion, Micah Ruth sees the revelation God wants to speak to her in this season. You are not what you do, you are not what they think of you, or have said of you. You are a loved and free child of God. With this new revelation, Micah goes on a journey to break down what she had allowed to identify her and rebuilds her identity in Christ.

You are Loved and Free is a devotional journey through the Bible, focusing on the book of Ephesians which holds the Truth about who we are in Christ. Through testimonials and heartfelt stories, Micah shares her journey, inviting others to go on the journey for themselves. She also shares the Biblical wisdom and practical application to rebuild your identity in Christ God revealed to her.
