LogoIt seems like I have struggled to get these books reviewed.  I was sent four books from Chicken Soup for the Soul,  and I am finally getting them reviewed!  I figured it would be easier to review all 4 in one post, so here goes.

Just Us GirlsChicken Soup for the Soul: Just Us Girls

101 Stories about Friendship for Women of All Ages

A woman’s friends are the family she picks for herself. Whether it’s about something funny or serious, our friends are the first ones we think to call. They are a constant source of support and encouragement. This collection of 101 touching and amusing stories celebrates all that is special about the bonds that women share with their friends — the unique spirit of female friendship. You’ll love reading and sharing these stories with your friends.

My thoughts:  There is not much better than women sharing inspirational stories, and this is no exception.  There are 101 stories about female friendship, and I believe every woman can find something to which they can relate.  One thing I love is that you can easily find the story that interests you by consulting the table of contents.  This is the perfect gift for any woman in your life.

Think Positive For kidsChicken Soup for the Soul: Think Positive for Kids

101 Stories about Good Decisions, Self-Esteem, and Positive Thinking

Give a child gifts that will last a lifetime — self-esteem, tolerance, values, and inner strength. The values that children learn today will stay with them for the rest of their lives. This collection gives kids positive role models to follow in its 101 stories about doing the right thing and making healthy choices. You and your child will enjoy discussing the stories, making it a family event. Great for teachers to share with students too.

My thoughts:  I am a teacher, and I have been known to use these books in schools to  illustrate points.  And when I say school, I refer to public schools.  Yes, these books are inspirational and never overly preachy.  I still remember a story I shared from long ago, and this is the perfect book  for me to slip  in my bag on those occasions that I need a “filler” idea.  You see, I am a substitute teacher, and I can’t tell you how  many times I need a little extra something for class.  With all  the negative stuff out there for kids, it’s nice to find a book that provides positive messages.

o canada the wondersChicken Soup for the Soul: O Canada The Wonders of Winter

101 Stories about Bad Weather, Good Times and Great Sports

Canadian winters are notorious! But this collection will warm your heart, brighten your day, and lift your spirits. Any Canadian — from east to west coast; from city to rural — will love the 101 stories in this new collection about embracing those long winter days and making the most of them. Filled with amusing and encouraging stories about weathering the cold, creating warm memories with family and friends, and playing great winter sports.

My thoughts:  Don’t be put off by the title–this is not just for Canadians.  Americans will enjoy these stories, too.  After all, if you love wintertime, this is the book for you.  You will find wonderful tales that make  you feel better about life–especially during the winter.  Don’t let the storms and  the grey skies get your spirits down.  Be reminded  of why the winter can be a magical and  special time.  I love the cover,  and who couldn’t love the stories?

When it comes to each of  these books, I recommend reading a little at a time.  Sitting down and reading the book from  start to finish is never my preferred way to enjoy these books.  They even work for devotionals!  That’s how I used the Christmas one.
