ABOUT THE BOOK

Jamie always adored True Love Bookstore and Café, and now she’s the owner. But businesses are struggling in her small town, and her beloved store is threatened by a new retail development scheme.

Sawyer, Jamie’s former high school sweetheart, startles her when he comes to town for the first time in fifteen years. She soon learns he’s the architect of the proposed development and he’s there to sell local business owners on his plan. Sawyer had no idea that Jamie had bought the bookstore and poured everything she had into it. If he takes it over, he’ll break her heart a second time.

Jamie’s discovery of a box of old love letters and valentines might hold the key to saving her shop. And after all this time, could love be in the cards for Jamie and Sawyer, too?

This heartwarming romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this is a Hallmark novelization based on the original movie of the same title, The Story of Us. This means there is nothing shocking nor inappropriate. If you loved the Hallmark movie, you’re going to love the book even more. And if you haven’t seen the movie (or maybe didn’t care that much for the movie), I still invite you to read this book. The incredible thing about Hallmark books that are based on their movies is that you will invariably walk away with a richer experience if you’ve seen the movie. And if you haven’t, well, you’re in for a treat!

Full disclosure. I watched the movie The Story Of Us back when it first premiered on the Hallmark Channel. While I adored both lead actors and enjoyed the story for the most part, I was not overly invested. The story was slightly above average, in my opinion, and I believe I only watched it once. Since it was Maggie Lawson and Sam Page, I enjoyed them along with the secondary stories, but I had only watched it that one time and didn’t remember everything.

As I embarked upon the reading of this novelization of the movie, I was instantly drawn into the story like never before. Moreover, this is not the first time something like this has happened. All too often, when I watch the movie, there is so much that the audience does not know nor understand, and the purpose of these books is to fill in those details, thus giving the reader a much more expanisve experience. And with a literary artist like Teri Wilson, well, you just can’t go wrong!

I knew Teri before I ever read of one of her books, and I have loved every one of her movies that Hallmark has adapted to screen. I had the honor of reading a couple of her books from years past, so I knew that I was in for something special. However, Teri absolutely knocked it out of the park! She is so amazing when it comes to detailing the movitations behind character actions and what both characters are really thinking. I suddenly understood what was really going on between our two leading characters, and I became instantly invested in their love story like never before! Finally, Jamie and Sawyer made sense to me in an authentic way that I hadn’t recognized in that first viewing of the movie, and it was all I could do to set this book aside. I was hooked!

Teri is also adept at switching back and forth between the primary and secondary stories. Her transitions are flawless and never pulled me out of the story. I am absolutely obsessed with the way she writes! I loved her before Hallmark publishing snatched her up, and now that she has partnered with them, I couldn’t be happier!

One more thing. After reading through most of the book, I had the opportunity to catch the last fifteeen minutes of The Story of Us on the Hallmark Channel. For the first time since the premiere, I found myself engaged in this story like never before because of Teri’s masterful novelization!

Lest anyone thinks that I made up my mind beforehand that I was going to give a rave review to this book, let me set the record straight. While I always go into a book like this with the expecation that I will enjoy the book, I did not expect to enjoy this novelization as much as I did! That speaks to Teri’s incredible writing style, and I would happily recommend this book to anyone and everyone anywhere in the world!

In The Story of Us, Jamie and Sawyer’s friend Rick can’t seem to tell his crush how he feels about her. More than once, he retreats to the kitchen to make risotto instead. Jamie and Sawyer aren’t especially good at putting their feelings for each other into words, either…and it doesn’t help that Sawyer’s retail development plan will mean the end of Jamie’s beloved bookstore! Our Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto is as easy as it is elegant. It would be perfect to serve to friends or as part of a romantic meal.
