I remember how much I adored the Hallmark Channel movie, Moonlight In Vermont, starring Lacey Chabert and Carlo Marks. Because of a wide variety of connections which I am honored and humbled to have made, I had the joy of interviewing Carlo back then, even before season two of Chesapeake Shores began its journey. Now that we Chessies are on the precipice of witnessing the triumphant return of David Peck, I was convinced it was time to update my interview with this amazing and charming young man, and thankfully, Carlo was of a similar mindset.
RH: Carlo, it is so good to chat with you again. It’s been a while now. The last time we chatted was right before we saw you in Moonlight in Vermont.
CM: Hey, Ruth, so nice to connect with you again too. That was some time ago.
In fact, when we chatted, we had only barely seen you in Chesapeake Shores, and we didn’t even know what was going to happen with your character in season two. But now, we’ve seen Jess (Laci J. Mailey) in the most recent episode, and it looks like she is about to see your character, David, again.
Oh good! I’m glad she is. Fill me in on what happened last time. I forget.
{laughs} Well, of course, in the last episode, Jess was spending all of her time beside herself because she’s not heard from David.
She’s pining, right?
Yes, she is distraught and is talking to everybody she can about David. I couldn’t believe she even went to Connor (Andrew Francis) and told him about David. She went to Bree (Emilie Ullerup) to talk about David. Then at the end of the episode, she got a letter or something explaining how he didn’t have service so he hadn’t been able to get in contact with her. And she just screamed! It was so cute! And then she went around telling everybody, “I get to see David!”
{laughs} You make me want to watch it now!
I’ve loved Jess and her story on the show, but this was just so cute and hilarious. So it looks like David is now coming back into Jess’ life. And it looks like, at least from what we know, that she’s supposed to be going to meet David’s parents up in Maine, if I remember right.
Yeah, I remember that much. I don’t want to give too much away before tonight’s episode.
And I think she wants Bree to come with her.
Yes, and Bree does end up tagging along.
I kind of figured that. First of all, I’m glad that you’re back. In fact, I reached out to you because our last interview, which is more than a year old, continues to be one of the most popular interviews on my site.
Well, how did that happen?
I don’t know! I guess because people are interested in you and your character, and when they look for information, they end up finding our interview on my site. And when I saw how popular that interview was, I thought an updated one might be a good idea.
Yeah, sounds good to me.
And it was just the other day that someone was looking up information on Moonlight On Vermont, and they found my interview with you.
That’s really cool.
I’m very glad you’re back because at the end of last season of Chesapeake Shores, it seemed like nobody was getting a happy ending as far as love goes. So is there anything you can tease about your character this season without giving away too much?
Let me see if I can be delicate. I think everybody’s really going to like this next episode. We will be visiting David’s parents and going to their place. Our location for this episode is definitely the best location I’ve been at in Chesapeake Shores. In fact, I think all the crew said that too. It’s just amazing. I hope it shows up on camera. I think it will. It’s a beautiful piece of property.
There are so many intersecting storylines, but the story the fans will see in this next episode has its own complete story. There will be several winks or nods to a lot of popular movies that I know the viewers are gonna recognize. I can’t remember if they happen this next episode or the one after that, but keep your eyes open for those, and you’ll be sure to see them. You’re bound to see some of your favorite scenes from John Hughes movies. They’re kind of like an homage to him, and we had a lot of fun doing that. ‘
Well, of course, we all hope Jess and David end up together. But I do know that if that does happen, it’s not always going to be the easiest road. There are usually bumps along the way.
Yeah, I do think there are those little bumps, but more and more you’re going to see David and Jess becoming a kind of support for each other. If everything goes the way I hope it does, Jess and David will be able to help each other weather the storms together. Any of the drama that you might see comes from the outside, not the inside. Hopefully, this means that we will grow closer and closer, but again, only time will tell.
I’m certainly looking forward to seeing this unfold. Laci is just so wonderful anyway. You and she have a really good chemistry on screen.
I agree and think we do too. It’s like we can easily switch back and forth between the dramatic, the romantic, and the funny and light stuff. I think that’s why it translates so well into our on-screen chemistry.
And in case you needed proof that the fans like you, let me share this detail. You were recently seen in a Hailey Dean movie; it was the episode called A Marriage Made For Murder. Have you gotten to see any of those?
No, I haven’t seen any of those yet. I was in Canada when my episode came on, so I haven’t even seen that one yet. But I know it will play here eventually.
Well, here in the U.S., it played during the month of June, and a lot of people got concerned that your character was going to be the killer.
{laughs} Oh yeah, I can imagine.
People were messaging me and saying that they hoped you weren’t the murderer. They didn’t want to think of you as the bad guy.
I know what you mean. And I tell you, when I read the script, I thought the same thing. And that’s a compliment to the writers.
I agree completely. My mom and I love the Hailey Dean films, and it was very nice to see you in a little different kind of role. And the fans really do like you. I regularly see that posted on social media or on my site or whatever. So are you able to tell us how many episodes of Chesapeake Shores that you are on this season?
I don’t know. I don’t know if I can even answer that. I’ll be back. We’ll just leave at that. I’m back.
Well, we’ll just hope that you are in as many episodes as possible this season. We know you’re back this next episode. Hopefully, we’ll see you in many more episodes to come.
Thank you. You might just get your wish.
That would be great. I know that I speak for a lot of the fans. In fact, this interview is going to be a kind of surprise because I didn’t announce it officially. So once it posts, that added to this next episode should give you a lot of buzz.
That’s great, Ruth. I hope that the fans see me a whole bunch in this next episode as well as the rest of the season.
I also know the fans all want a season four, but there is also a big push now for a Chesapeake Shores holiday movie.
Yeah, I heard some rumors about that, but nothing concrete as of yet.
Well, the fans all want it, as does the showrunner, Michael Berns. And I’m sure the cast would be all for it too.
Definitely. I know I’d be there.
Of course! We couldn’t have a Chesapeake Shores holiday movie without David.
No, that’s right. Who’s gonna cook? {laughs}
{laughs} Absolutely! Because I don’t think Jess would be able to handle the cooking too well.
No, I guarantee she wouldn’t. {laughs}
Well, that is something that we will continue to ask Hallmark for. It would be so nice if that happened. Now, veering away from Hallmark, I have actually seen you in another film that was on Lifetime. It had a lot of Vancouver actors. Sleepwalking In Suburbia.
Yeah, a very different universe from Hallmark. But it was kind of ironic because in that one, I’m matched up with Emilie.
That’s right, you were! I initially watched that one because Giles Panton was in it, and we are good friends.
Oh yes. And Giles makes an appearance this season on Chesapeake Shores as well.
Yes, he does. I believe we’ll be seeing him later this season. No word on his character, but at least we know he’s in it. I’m worried that his character may be one we don’t like, but you never know with Giles.
{laughs} You know, sometimes you don’t like Giles’ characters, but you can’t help but like Giles.
Isn’t that the truth? Now, do you have anything else upcoming that you can mention?
Well, it wasn’t that long ago we wrapped on everything, but I’ve got some theater stuff coming up. But nothing else in the can. I’m going to be doing this theater stuff in Vancouver. We’re hoping everything comes together for it. Courtney Richter is in it with me along with Michael Karl Richards.
And it just so happens I recently spoke with both of them! Courtney had some stuff coming up, so her interview is posted, but when I found out Michael was going to be in one episode of Chesapeake Shores, I interviewed him too and will be posting that one soon.
Oh yeah, Michael has a great episode. And another guest actor is with him on that.
Yep, I know about that too–Kate Isaac.
Oh yeah, you know it!
So here’s hoping all that theater stuff happens.
I hope so too. I get to play Courtney’s fiance. So we’ll see. Fingers crossed. It’s supposed to happen next month.
I also think it would be really great if Hallmark brought you back for another movie.
I think so too. I’d love that! I keep looking around, and I think it would be great to be in a Christmas movie.
That would be fantastic! I know there are also people who continue to ask for a sequel to Moonlight In Vermont.
I think that’s a great idea.
What a great cast that was and it would wonderful to see the rest of the story. And you played a cook in that one too.
Yeah! {laughs} I don’t mind at all.
Well, I can promise you that the fans are going to be so excited to see your character come back in this next episode. In fact, I have no doubt that there are people who are just as happy as Jess if not happier that you’ll be back.
{laughs} Ruth, if those super fans read this interview, I’d like to see them recreate Jess’ scream of excitement. If they accept that challenge, I urge them to please post it and tag me.
Carlo, that sounds like a perfect challenge. I hope you have some takers!
I figure it just takes one brave soul to sort of break the ice, so I’ll be watching.
I want to thank you again, Carlo, for your time. Here’s hoping David is truly back to stay, and I can hardly wait to see what’s up next for you.
Ruth, thank you for all your lovely posts. And come on ladies, let’s hear those “Jess Screams.” And I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of the season too!
Until recently speaking with Carlo again, I had forgotten just what an engaging individual Carlo is. He has this especially disarming way of creating an environment that is conducive to informality, playfulness, and authenticity. The fact that Carlo is so exhilarated about every project in which he is invited to utilize his profound talents is something that causes me to be even more thrilled with every project that was mentioned as well as the ones that are not envisioned as of yet. While all the cast members are enthusiastic about being a part of Chesapeake Shores, I believe that since Carlo’s character is not a guaranteed member of the cast, he realizes and fully embraces every moment he can be on screen in the role of the beloved and delightful David Peck. In my humble opinion, David and Jess are one of the most entertaining and whimsical combinations on screen, and witnessing his return tonight (August 19th) on the Hallmark Channel is bound to be a momentous occasion for both the cast and viewers alike. While there are no other film/TV projects on the horizon for Carlo at present, I can only hope and pray that Hallmark (or some other worthy network) will snatch up this gifted, capable artist and cast him in a role that will both enthrall the viewers and ensure the success of the project at hand while fueling Carlo’s creative juices.
Please be sure that you tune in to Chesapeake Shores on the Hallmark Channel tonight (August 19th) for the third episode of season three (or the Super Channel Heart & Home in Canada), and remember to tune in every subsequent Sunday night until we reach the climactic finale sometime this fall. Additionally, I would beg every person reading this interview to consider checking out all of Carlo’s links below and perhaps even accept the challenge he detailed towards the end of our chat. (I bet there are Chessies just itching to have the opportunity to let Carlo know how much they adore him! Here’s your chance!) I am honored to highlight such a determined, talented, affable, handsome young man on my site yet again, and I cannot thank Hallmark enough for continuing to provide such quality, wholesome entertainment like Chesapeake Shores that features the amazing work of young actors like Carlo. Without the Hallmark Channel, I would probably still be grievously unaware of the kind and winsome nature of Carlo Marks, and it is my sincere desire to see grounded, gifted actors like him succeed!

I occasionally view Chesapeake Shores and saw you tonight as David..very sweet how you made Christmas for Jess and even had the mistletoe there for a kiss. Also view many of the Hallmark flicks. Moonlight in Vermont was one I liked and if Hallmark is smart they will do a sequel. I’m a NY woman, now living in CA. I worked in entertainment for years as a VP for a company named Fremantle and sold American programming internationally. Just wanted to take time to tell you I enjoy your work, and look forward to seeing more of it. Harriette Schwartz

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”Prince Charming David has returned, with ‘the slipper,’ to Cinderella Jess. Let us hope that he does not return to the manor but remains by the hearth at the Shores.
As for ‘Moonlight…,’ while there are many memorable lines in films, I nominate Dereck’s to Fiona as she stomps away after his epic kiss, “You even kiss too fast.”
And please, Hallmark, how about bringing these two together again with some sequels. They’re a winning twosome and I’d like to hear Carlo sing, ever so sweetly, once again.-

Carol, what a lovely comment! Thank you for stopping by. And I really hope Hallmark hears you about the sequel. You’re not the first one to recommend a sequel to Moonlight in Vermont.

Chesapeake Shores is my very favorite on TV right now and I love David and Jess. I work for Air Canada but live in Texas, love the show and location so much I’m planning a trip there with some girlfriends that also live the show. Don’t let David’s character disappear!

To you, Ruth, for offering to forward my comments, and to charming Carlo for his memorable performances, “I can no other answer make but thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks.” That’s the Bard in Twelfth Night.

Ruth, I posted a comment on the day that you interviewed Carlo, offering my kudos and his requested ‘scream’ for a follow-up to Moonlight… I was ecstatic at being the first to sing Carlo’s praises that day as I prepared to watch Moonlight (for perhaps the 30th time). The comment, however, was rejected as having been posted previously. While I did comment when you interviewed Carlo earlier in the year, my latest was a new entry. Is it possible to retrieve that ‘rejected’ comment? Or must I composed an entirely new one?

Carol it was not rejected. It was held for moderation and I think you see I forwarded it to Carlo so he could see it. I impose comment moderation because many people spam my site and sometimes leave comments that are negative and sometimes even offensive. Thank you for your support.

With “Moonlight in Vermont” about to air in one hour — when I will be watching it for perhaps the 30th time, I had to refresh my memory by checking Carlo’s bio and, lo and behold, there is today’s interview. Love you, love you, love you, dear Carlo, and here is my SCREAM loud and clear for a follow-up to “Moonlight…” Great script; memorable lines; brilliant cast. Love that moment when Carlo sings to Lacey. He not only cooks, but he sings as well. A double-threat!
Must look for that Lifetime episode “Sleepwalking in Suburbia.”
Good luck, Carlo, with the theater ventures.
Thank you, Ruth, for your timely and special interview with Carlo.
Color me your most avid 87-year-old fan, Carlo.-

Carol, this is such an awesome comment! I am going to make sure that Carlo sees this. Glad you enjoyed it! And you know, Sleepwalking in Suburbia is on again sometime soon. It plays regularly I know.
