Anyone who knows me is aware of my affinity for mysteries, and Hallmark mysteries are some of my absolute favorites. In the case of Morning Show Mysteries, I find this a refreshing addition to Hallmark’s line-up, and when I discovered that Adam Beauchesne had been added to the second installment, I reached out to him for an interview. Interestingly enough, Hallmark viewers had the opportunity to see him earlier this year. Moreover, Adam was kind enough to detail his life in the entertainment industry so far, and I gladly share his thoughts with my readers today.

RH: Why/how did you decide to become an actor and what kind of training have you had?

AB: I actually started fairly early, with voice and speech classes when I was nine. This got me started down the road of the performing arts, and I continued expanding my horizons through grade school into University (in Lethbridge, Alberta), where I obtained my BFA in performance. My focus had been primarily in theatre for a long time, until a chance audition after graduating landed me my first major film gig, which ended up bringing me out to Vancouver and steering my ambitions towards the film/television world.

I’ve always been drawn to performance. Being able to interpret someone’s words and create a character on stage or screen is such a privilege. I’d always considered acting to be a kind of pastime, but never realistically imagined I’d be able to make it my full-time career. Not a day goes by now that I don’t shake my head at how lucky I’ve been to end up doing what I love on a daily basis.

What do you consider your first official and/or significant professional role? What are your memories of that role?

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil

Out of university, I was cast in the indie horror-comedy Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. It was my first audition out of school, and my first ever audition for film. It really was just a case of being at the right place, at the right time, as happens so much in this industry. I was given a taste of what it was like to be on a real set and just fell in love with the experience.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil

In retrospect, it was a tough shoot! We were filming out in the southern Alberta heat, covered in blood and gore, sweating, running through the woods – but I just had the time of my life. The film went on to play at Sundance and SXSW (South By Southwest) and was released all over the world. To date, it’s one of the projects I’m most proud of.

Over the past few years, you’ve had guest spots on various well-known shows. Please tell us about some of your favorite/most memorable.

iZombie

It’s been a really lucky couple years! I’ve gotten to work with some really amazing people I have respected and admired from afar for so long. Being in a scene with Malcolm McDowell on Psych was really exciting and intimidating. It’s interesting dropping into a show like Psych or Fringe, where the core cast has been working together for years and years and have such a kind of family dynamic between them. Dropping in for a day can be daunting, trying to find your place in that dynamic, but I’ve been really fortunate so far with the roles I’ve gotten. My experience on iZombie was super fun as well, they were an incredibly welcoming group of people, and getting to meet and be directed by Enrico Colantoni was such a cool experience.

Recently I had a recurring role on a digital series for CBC called This Blows that was one of my favourite on-set experiences. The whole team was so passionate about the project, and I made a lot of lasting relationships.

You had a recurring role on Project MC2. What was special about that role for you?

Project MC2

Project Mc2 was my first experience playing a major recurring character on TV. It’s such a unique and thrilling experience to have a character that changes and grows with a show. Every week getting a new script and learning along with everyone how the story is developing, and what will happen to your character. I also so rarely get to play villainous characters, so it was fun to tap into that darker side for a moment.

It also holds a special place in my heart because it’s one of the few things that my nieces and nephews back in Alberta are able to watch and appreciate at a young age! I got to visit a teacher friend’s fifth grade classroom and answer some questions about acting and the show, which was really exciting for me.

You had a small role in one episode of Date My Dad. While this show has not been renewed, the fans have enjoyed and supported this show in a special way. What are your memories of filming this show?

I had a lot of fun shooting Date My Dad! It was such a quick experience, it’s hard to honestly gauge much about the set – I was just in one quick shot. But everyone seemed to be really passionate about the project, especially some of the younger performers in the main cast. So it was really disappointing to hear it was cancelled. {No official word at present, but this seems to be the case.}

Your first Hallmark movie was Once Upon A Prince (I think). How did you get connected with this movie? Any special moments you’d like to share from filming?

I auditioned for Once Upon a Prince back in January, and yes, it was my first Hallmark project (after a few years of trying!). It was so awesome to get to visit Victoria, BC for this shoot, and I knew a few familiar faces on set. This was also the first time I’ve gotten to use any kind of accent on camera, so I was a bit nervous about that – but it seemed to go well!

Hallmark viewers will see you soon in the second installment of Morning Show Mysteries. What can you tease about your role and the movie without spoiling anything?

You know, I’m not sure that I can share much at all! My character’s name is Gibby Anderson, who is the son of a wealthy business tycoon. Gibby definitely has a mysterious side, and some personal vendettas he’s looking to settle. He’s a really complicated character, with a lot of backstory that we really only get to scratch the surface of. But it was fun to be able to delve into that and try to play some of the nuances. It reminded me a lot of preparing for a theatre role, actually.

Speaking of Morning Show Mysteries, what was it like working with the cast/crew? What do you like about working for Hallmark?

It was so much fun shooting with Holly {Robinson Peete} and Rick {Fox}; they’re both so easy-going and super professional. I hope this is the first of many experiences I have with Hallmark; it was a really great experience. The writing is always really interesting and fresh, and the cast and crew they assemble are incredibly welcoming.

Any other upcoming works you can mention?

I have a small role on an upcoming project called Blue Book for History Channel, starring Aidan Gillen from Game of Thrones. The majority of the work I do these days is in voiceover, which is harder to track down – but you may hear my voice here and there!

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

I love living in Vancouver! So exploring everything that this city has to offer – beautiful hikes and beaches, and some amazing bars and coffee shops in my neighborhood. I’m also a big board game lover, so always getting together with friends to try out a new game. I do try and explore other artistic arenas, in writing and music, but nothing I’ve ever been confident enough with to share publicly!

While Adam’s career is still in its virtual inception, the fact that Hallmark has chosen to cast him twice this year in their productions is certainly a testament to his talent and dedication. While he has often been the recipient of “being at the right place at the right time,” there is no denying that his positive outlook and innate giftedness have served him well in his career thus far, and I tend to believe that great things may be on the horizon for him in the near future. With all the charm and vitality of youth blended with talent and unpretentiousness, there is no doubt that Adam is on the correct path towards realizing his dreams of being a much sought-after working actor. So please consider tuning in tonight (7/22) to Morning Show Mysteries: Murder On the Menu on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries for what is purported to be another exhilarating ride peppered with humor and mystery as well as a standout performance by Adam. Additionally, consider following him at all the links below and keep an eye open for this up and coming artistic soul. While no one can predict the future, Adam certainly appears to be doing everything within his power to effectively pursue his goal of accomplishing every dream within his heart and mind.
