Never in my entire life have I had a new mattress. I have subsisted with hand-me-downs and second-hand mattresses and box springs as long as I can remember. And up until about two weeks ago, the bed I had was an ancient mattress that was rather uncomfortable (which is an understatement). We had added a mattress foam topper to it, which helped somewhat, but it was old. The box spring was antique (it belonged to my great-grandmother), and it was sturdy, but it was old and bulky. I didn’t think much of it. I just managed the best that I could.

When I was contacted by Nature’s Sleep to review their GhostBed mattress, I literally jumped at the chance. I had reviewed Nature’s Sleep memory foam products before, and I know firsthand that their products are of highest quality. And when they offered to send me a frame as well, I was ecstatic!

The boxes arrived, and I was ready to go. We opened the box to the frame, and realized that something very important had been left out–the wood screws! But being the wonderful company they are, they apologized and within a couple days, the wood screws arrived. And so my mom and I began the task of putting the bed frame together.

Now, let me say here that I highly recommend the use of a drill in construction of the bed frame. I suppose an electric screwdriver would work as well. In some of the videos and directions I have seen, it says specificaly to use a regular Phillips screwdriver only. Now, here’s what my mom and I discovered. A screwdriver would cause this project to last all day, and it would involve a lot of unneccessary energy (and possibly even a broken screwdriver–speaking from experience). Notwithstanding, I do recommend that you are cautious with the drill. Make sure you don’t put it on high speed. You need to remain in control. But as long as you set the pace (and I had never used a drill previously, so if I can do it, you can), you will be fine.

One other little thing to note on the frame. Some of the holes were not drilled at all or were in the wrong spot. Having that drill made it easy for my mom and me to take care of that issue. I don’t know if that can be avoided. Maybe our frame was the only one like this. But it was simple enough to get it lined up and drill the holes in the proper places. Oh, and be sure you do have at least two people working on putting the fram together. One person would really struggle to do it, so don’t try to be superwoman and think you have to do it all yourself. Enlist the help of someone else.

After a couple of hours of work, the frame was put together. According to the company, this frame is much sturdier than the frames you typically buy due to the fact that store-bought frames are typically stapled together. I can state that the company is correct–that is the sturdiest frame I have ever seen. It is strong and made of natural wood (watch out for splinters), and I couldn’t be happier. It wasn’t that hard to put it all together as long as you follow the instructions.

Now, the mattress. It was not easy to get that box open. You will need two people to help you cut the box open. And once it opens, that mattress immediately began the recovery process. I could hear the air entering the mattress. It says that it takes twenty-four hours to completely recover, but you can sleep on it immediately.

This is a picture of the mattress on the frame just moments after it had been taken out of the box. Within twenty-four hours, it was almost as high as my old bed frame had been. I used to have room under my bed, but we had a couple of cats who used to hide under there. It’s very nice to not have the spot under the bed collecting dust and cats!

Now, the video I’m going to show you spans about a week. I had everything ready to go until we realized that the screws were missing. So we had to postpone opening the mattress and all that till later. I do not have actual video of taking the mattress out of the box as it required both my mom and me to do it, and I could not take video while doing that. However, you will see it immediately afterward.

You can see at the end of this video the nice new bed and how well it works in my room. As I have now slept on the bed almost a week, I can say I have never in my life slept in such a comfortable bed. It is amazing! Whenever I get into the bed at night, the mattress instantly cradles my back. I find that I sleep better. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I am able to go back to sleep very easily!

As far as I’m concerned, I believe that this bed is the best bed on which I have ever slept. I would recommend it to all of my friends. And I would invite you to check it out yourself.
