She’s through with cowboys. But this one’s the ‘reel’ deal.
Emily followed Houston’s line of vision down to the front of her wet blouse. Her white, cotton shirt was matted to her body, revealing her skimpy bra beneath. Even from her perspective she could see the pink tips of her breasts showing through the material. She imagined he had an even better view. In fact, she could guarantee it. His ragged breath might have been in response to their recent dash, but that fiery look in his eyes came from a more primal place.
He grasped her shoulders. A part of her prayed that he’d kiss her. The other more logical part … well … it was kind of hopeful about it, too. She watched as he moved closer and closer, until his mouth brushed against hers.
Just say no to cowboys. Just say… “Mmmmmmm.”
His grip around her tightened as he traced a line of soft kisses along her cheek. “Emily, when can I see you again?”
“Oh, Houston,” she heard her breathless voice say, “I can’t.”
He pulled away. Slightly. “You’re not seeing someone else, are you?”
“No. It’s nothing like that.”
“Good. Then answer my question,” he whispered against her neck as he nibbled his way to her collarbone.
How could she answer? She couldn’t even think straight. “Houston,” she gasped, “we have a problem.”
He gave a low chuckle. “More than you know, darlin’, but let’s not get into that right now. We’ll approach this another way. If you weren’t going to see me again, when would be the best time to do it?”
It took her a while to figure out what he was aiming at. “I’ll be back at the ranch again this Friday, but I don’t think–”
“Friday is perfect. We can have dinner together.”
“But Houston, you don’t understand. I made a vow…” The rest of her sentence came out in a moan as his lips descended onto hers once more. This cowboy must have used liquor in his lip balm, because she was definitely getting tipsy. By the time he came up for air again, she was mush. If he hadn’t been holding onto her, she would have floated away.
“Now, I have only one question left,” he said, curling an arm around her and guiding her out of the pond. “How am I gonna get you back to your truck safely with you looking like that?”
Emily wrapped her outside arm across her chest. “Are you worried about protecting me from the other cowboys?”
“No, ma’am.” He smiled. “I’m worried about protecting you from me.

Crazy for Cowboy by Roxy Boroughs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Let me begin by saying this is about as clean as you can get in a contemporary romance, and I appreciate that more than anything else. No sex scenes–although it was alluded to, but no acts happened within the confines of the book. Profanity was nonexistent. Add in cowboys and a hot romance, and you have the perfect light romance.
I so appreciated the humor in this book! So often I read books and barely crack a smile. Either humor is nonexistent or too corny for words. Roxy Boroughs has a great sense of humor, and it comes out in her writing extremely well.
So why did I give the book four stars? This is a light romance, and the last several pages were nothing but sappiness. That will appeal to those who must have a happy ending. This is a fun read, and I think it can make a long winter’s night pass in a much nicer fashion. But there is really not meat–only fluff. That is not necessarily bad because after all, fluff is a great way to escape reality for a while. But understand that the story is sweet, and conflict is nonexistent. Not bad, just light.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
Look for her award-winning romantic suspense A STRANGER’S TOUCH, as well as its sequel, A STRANGER’S KISS, along with a sweet, romantic comedy called CRAZY FOR COWBOY. Find her on Facebook, Twitter and her website http://www.roxyboroughs.com/.
Guest Post From the Author
Thanks for having me here today.
I’m visiting from snowy Calgary, Alberta. It may still be autumn in most places but it definitely feels like winter here.
When I moved to this western Canadian city, I figured it was high time for me to make use of the setting and write a cowboy romance. I only had one problem. I knew nothing about cowboys. Had never met one. I don’t think I’d even watched a John Wayne movie. So that idea went on the backburner.
Shortly thereafter, I got a job at Heritage Park Historical Village. Set on 127 acres, with glorious views of the Rockies, the park features a village depicting life in the old west—as shown in this photo, courtesy of Wikipedia.
For several summers, I was part of the street theater program at HeritagePark. I’d dress up in beautiful, turn-of-the-century costumes and act out scenes for the tourists, playing everything from a rich heiress to a visiting suffragette. It was a great place to work and a lot of fun, as you can imagine.
And every summer, acting alongside us, would be Hollywood stars making movies. That gave me the idea for my hero, Brandon, to be an actor who’s playing the part of a cowboy in a film, which happens to be shooting on location at Heritage Park. In fact, the long yellow building on the left-hand side of the photo is the Wainwright Hotel, where Brandon films his first scene.
Since my background is in the performing arts, and I’ve been on a few movie sets, I wasn’t worried about accurately portraying those parts of the book. But I still didn’t know anything about cowboys.
Luckily, one of my fellow performers in the street theater program came from a ranching family. He was kind enough to answer my questions and even showed me how to ride a horse bareback, just for the experience. He also let me tag along with him to the Calgary Stampede, to see the chuck wagon races and ride on the giant Ferris Wheel, which also found its way into the story.
Now, all I needed was a heroine for my hero. She’s Emily Grant, an equine veterinarian. When she first meets Brandon Hollister, in his Stetson and spurs, she’s immediately attracted to him, but resists because cowboys have burned her in the past and she’s sworn off them. Meanwhile, Brandonhears Emily only dates cowboys, so he plays up his “Houston Savage” personae hoping it will win her heart. And so the comedy begins, in my sweet romance, CRAZY FOR COWBOY.

Thanks, Joanne. All the best of the season to you.

Brandon must have learned a lot being a “reel” cowboy to be able to fool Emily, in “real” life since she only dates cowboys. Can’t wait to read this book. It sounds fantastic.
