The Importance of Corporate and Individual Giving

People are giving to charities all over the world. Some give to large, international concerns and others to small, community efforts, but one thing they have in common is they all help somebody. Even the smallest donation, such as a few toys for children who may never get a wonderful new toy, makes a big impact. Large corporations such as Palmco also know the importance of giving. These companies exist in a community and most of their employees live locally. Helping the less fortunate in the local community not only benefits the people, it also benefits the company.

The Benefits to You

When you or your business donates to a charitable organization or to a non-profit institution, you get a tax deduction on the amount your give. This is a win/win situation for the people who receive help and for your lower tax bill.

You can find a charity that resonates with your lifestyle. For example, when you give to a children’s hospital, you feel happy that you are helping children and their families overcome illnesses and other challenges. If you are a veteran, you understand the necessity of helping other military personnel who may not return to a situation as secure as yours.

The Benefits to Others

Charitable gifts help, and you can simply give a specified amount every year and feel comfortable you are doing something to help another person. Another way is to give to your local community efforts, or, if you live in a large city, you can give to the organizations that help the homeless. Your style of giving will depend on how much you want to be personally involved in the results.

Charitable giving has become more important than ever since the economic downturn of 2008. Many people reduced the amount they give or completely stopped giving, which caused some non-profits to greatly reduce their work.

Many companies target certain charities such as children cancer patients and make it easy for employees to donate. Research has shown that employees who work for a company that facilitates charitable giving have more loyalty to the company and feel more work satisfaction than employees who work for companies that don’t give.

It doesn’t take much to help someone who has nothing. Children especially benefit from simple things like new toys or clothing. Once you start giving, you’ll see the benefits too.
