It was on this date in 1807 when a horrendous ship disaster occurred in Leiden, Netherlands.  A ship (now notoriously known as the “gunpowder ship”) was carrying 37,000 pounds of gunpowder.  It exploded right in the center of the city, and the disaster was devastating.  There were over 151 deaths, 2000 wounded, and around 220 houses destroyed.  Reconstruction began quickly after the disaster, but it was a slow process.

Be sure to watch the animated video–it will shake you up, but it will give you a small idea of what it would have been like.

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Didn’t know about that disaster. That certainly was one of the worst of that time.

    That was horrible.
