Water–it is something all of need and drink (hopefully) on a daily basis. And when you turn on your water faucet, you expect your water to be safe and taste good, right? Well, unfortunately, you are probably wrong. While I live in the country (we have well water, and we wouldn’t dream of drinking well water without any filtration), the same can be said about city water.
I believe in getting a kit for testing my home’s water, and you should, too. If you’re wondering why, consider the following. While water in the city water system is supposed to have low levels of bacteria, one cannot be too careful. You will want to make sure that the water entering your home is free of anything it shouldn’t have and that it conforms to Environmental Protection Standards. After all, do you really know what is in your family’s drinking water?
So what might be in your water? Are you ready for the list?
- Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC) including pesticides and other chemicals–potential damage to the reproductive, liver, kidneys, and more
- Heavy metals–many health problems
- Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals–interfere with the normal hormones in your body
- Fluoride–controversial additive that may or may not contribute to oral health and/or thyroid disorders
As soon as you realize the potential dangers, you will want to consider the best water filter options. It is imperative that you do the research so you can come to your own conclusions regarding water filtration. The options include (but are not limited to) reverse osmosis, pitcher water filters, and solid block carbon filters. The possibilities can be overwhelming, but in this case, “ignorance is not bliss.” Education is key in this area, and I cannot stress it enough. This is especially true if you have children as young bodies are going to be more susceptible to potential drinking water dangers.
Be sure to get your water tested today, and don’t put this off. For the sake of your family, please find a viable solution and filter your family’s water beginning today.

Ruth, there are many types of water filters and some can become dangerous, especially if you forget to replace the internal filters after a period of time. People should read the manual when they buy one…
