When I was growing up, I don’t remember there being a lot of choices when it came to decorative lighting in a home. Generally, the choices were limited unless one wished to invest a lot of time, energy, and money. I can remember my parents buying antique lighting from a garage sale, but it was many years later before they ever got around to installing it. And though attractive, the installation process was extremely difficult. I don’t recall home improvement stores featuring extensive styles of home lights.
In this day and age, the possibilities are endless. If one wishes to go with modern, antique, or child-friendly lighting, the consumer can be the one in control. Affordable lighting that looks nice is a real possibility, and quality lighting can certainly be the finishing touch to a dazzling room.
As technology has advanced, so has lighting. Not only does the consumer have a choice of styles, but he/she has a selection of the type of lighting that is used. In other words, one can choose table lamps, floor lamps, ceiling fans, and the ever popular touch lamps. No longer is a handyman’s knowledge required when it comes to lamps and lighting. Consumers can even choose the type of bulb that is used.
For the added “wow” factor, be certain to add a stylized lampshade. Recently, my mom upgraded our old lampshades, and it truly made a difference in our living room. We have a Western theme in our house (since we live in the country), and adding horse-appliqued shades made all the difference in the world. No longer are we met with drab, boring lamps, but they are now vibrant and eye-catching.
When one is redoing the lights in his/her home, it is imperative to not neglect the outside lighting. Security lighting has evolved over time, and consumers can find easy-to-install lights that will illuminate the house on those dark and stormy nights. In our rural area, we can’t depend on street lighting, so we have several security lights that are essential to our home.
