My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am one who is actively concerned about weight and being healthier in my normal, day-to-day lifestyle. I lost around fifty pounds several years ago, and I have kept it off with a complete lifestyle change, and I couldn’t be happier in that area. I was truly looking forward to reviewing another healthy living book because I can generally find something substantial in every book like this that I have read in the past several years.

Unfortunately, I was quite disenchanted with this book shortly after I began reading it. When the author advocated skipping breakfast and going on a 16-hour fast on a regular basis, I was rather horrified. I have read the studies throughout the years that emphasize the importance of breakfast, and I fully agree. I was even more stunned when she stated (uncategorically, I might add)that eighty percent of a diet involves what you eat, and only twenty percent involves exercise. This still does not seem right to me. I appreciate the fact that the author struggled immeasurably with her weight, and I’m glad she found something that worked well for her. I understand that she has medical evidence to back up her claims as well, but I do not subscribe to her ideas in this area.

What I can say is that she has challenged me to consider hunger pains in a positive life, and most of the book is composed of tasty recipes. I have chosen to keep this book for the recipes alone (even though most don’t seem like “diet” recipes due to the use of mayonnaise amongst other high-caloric foods). This book may appeal to some, and I can’t deny that the results seem to be overwhelming, but I do not plan to follow much of what she has suggested. I will end by saying “to each his own.”

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
