Inspiration for Writers

I believe that writing books is a gift from God. It carries with it tremendous power and influence. One book written and marketed properly can literally move the hearts of men and women, boys and girls to believe more, accomplish more, handle more, dream more. Books help to open our imagination as to what is possible. And, of course, the right book can give us an enjoyable experience as we read in our leisure moments.

As an author of nine books, I find the motivation and inspiration to write from various situations and circumstances. Permit me to say that I write to help people see the value of having God in our lives, that we are able be all we were created to be and accomplish great things with Christ in our lives. This is my main inspiration, to see lives changed. And I aim to write based upon what may be going on in the lives of other people as I hear the various challenges and obstacles they face. The trials of life come to all of us. But it is my experience that reading great books from those who have learned how to overcome can make a tremendous difference in whether we rise above our challenges, or whether we are conquered.

It is my burning desire to help others with what I know and have learned over these more than thirty years of living for Jesus Christ. This is my major motivation in writing. Perhaps you will need to sit quietly and determine why you want to write. Your motive for doing what you do is just vital as what you do, and can give you the inspiration you need to keep on keeping on, even when you do not feel like it.

Actually, here are five things you can ponder to inspire you as a writer to make the goal of your becoming an author, or a best-selling author a reality:

  1. Determine what you would like to write about. Are you writing fiction or non-fiction? Do you have knowledge and perhaps experience about what you would like to place in print, especially if the book is to be non-fiction? I personally believe that each of us have something we can write about, because God has given us a mind with a capacity to dream, imagine and reason beyond anything most of us have even dared to believe about ourselves so far. So do not allow yourself to become overwhelmed when it comes to writing, thinking you will never be able to do it. You can do this, okay. Say that: I CAN DO THIS. Say it again. I CAN DO THIS. One more time, I CAN DO THIS.
  2. If you need to boost your confidence in writing, write a few pages, then ask one or two of your most trusted friends or family members to give you their thoughts concerning it. A note of caution here though: Please be willing to take a little correction or criticism. They may point put areas where they feel you need to be more detailed or may even tell you that you need to try again. And if they do, don’t get offended. Do not get discouraged. Try again.
  3. During the day, and perhaps even at night, ideas of what you can write in the book will be coming to you. As they do, write them down so you do not forget them. I have lost many good godly ideas that way. I did not write them when they came into my mind, and forgot them. “Someone has said, pen to paper never forgets.” Inspiration or ideas come much of the time when we are not even looking for them. So keep a pen and paper handy, okay.
  4. There will be moments when it may seem as if you cannot write any further. It will appear as though your mind has freeze up and you don’t know where what to write next. Do not despair. This is actually a great place, because pushing past this point is where you will find your greatest inspiration and it may also prove to be the point where you finish your manuscript with a bang. Find something to do, something that is fun to you. Relax. Let your mind get a break. And when it does, get back to writing and just flow with the inspiration and ideas that will come flooding into your mind.
  5. Finally, keep your dream before you. Becoming an accomplished author is very possible. And when you have finished your first book, your second, third and others will become easier to write than the first was. Think about it like this: I published my first book in 2006. What happened next? I wrote and released three new books in one year. It does get easier. So keep on keeping on and never, ever quit.
