Never a Gentleman by Eileen Dreyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
From the moment I picked up this book, I knew that is was “my kind” of book. Historical romance with a bit of mystery. A virginal “old maid” marrying a rake. The formula is typical of these English aristocracy historical romances. I found all the things I have come to love. I loved Grace and Diccan. Featuring a leading lady who is disabled is something I highly applaud. There were some turns and twists along the way, and the romance was high. This book bordered on eroticism, and sometimes things were a bit more descriptive than I would have liked. The scene with the mistress was one I could have done without. I also would have preferred a different word to the “f” word even though it was used in the correct context. I still don’t like that word. There was some profanity throughout, but mostly it was fairly innocuous with the exception I mentioned. The growing relationship between the couple was intriguing, and I would read this author again in spite of any issues. Once in a while, I found that I lost interest, but for the most part, things were acceptable.
I read this book for the 2014 Just For Fun Challenge.
