Three of My Current Favorite Things

I don’t generally do posts like this, but once in a while, I just have to let my readers know about some things that I really am enjoying.  Realize that this my opinion only, and your ideas may be different.

For anyone who knows me, they know that I don’t normally don’t watch most new television shows.  When I take surveys, I rarely have heard about this TV show or that one.  But two of my favorite things right now are TV shows!

The first show was one they advertised months in advance–Cedar Cove.  From the moment I first saw it advertised, I recognized the name Debbie Macomber.  I had read one of her books, and I knew she was a local Washingtonian author.  I loved the book of hers that I read, and I told my mom that we would love this show.  And I was right.  And when I discovered that Cedar Cove was based on Port Orchard, Washington, I was floored!  To see the places I knew and hear cities and towns  that were near me sounded phenomenal.  Here was a place that was making our corner of the world-famous.  And the stories and characters where amazing.  I love that fact that the show is sex-free, profanity-free (basically with minor alterations), and family values are emphasized.  I have not seen a show like this in ages, and I hope it goes on for years to come.  It’s one show where my computer goes aside, and I fully concentrate and relish this amazing show.

The second show was more of a shock to me.  I get my news from Fox News (say what you will–I’m a conservative at heart), and they talked about a show called Duck Dynasty.  I remember seeing it advertised, and I thought it looked and sounded dumb.  Just this past week, one of my favorite shows on Fox (The Five), featured one of the characters, and my mom decided to record it.  I rolled my eyes at her and thought it would be stupid, and we would never watch it.  Was I ever wrong!  We watched it, and we absolutely loved it!  It is funny and basically clean (the worst word we heard was “crap,” and I can deal with that word.).  No sex, and Christian values were emphasized.  They end each episode with a prayer.  I can’t believe how popular the show is, and it is now a staple in our household.

And finally, my last favorite thing–the TV Guardian.  This is unusual, I know.  I had heard about this profanity filter before, and our pastor at church mentioned it.  I looked it up, and my mom and I decided it would be worth buying.  We got it, and I hooked it up.  I didn’t get it hooked up perfectly at first, but we began to get spoiled.  Sometimes when it mutes the profanity, it doesn’t always come back on.  So we have to “un-mute” it, but the joy is that we don’t have to hear all the garbage.  My dad really didn’t like the machine.  I recently set it up to filter our movies, and we watched Castaway.  My parents had never seen it, but I remembered there being some profanity in it.  I hoped I had everything set up, and I did!  I couldn’t believe the fact that we could now watch films that were good but had some profanity in it.  It was a joy to not hear all those words we don’t like.  I am completely sold on this product!

Anything you want to share that you have recently discovered?  Or any thoughts on what I shared?  I’d love to read what you think.
