books to moviesWelcome to the Books to Movies Giveaway Hop hosted by Bookhounds and I Am a Reader, Not a Writer.  This is fantastic hop that celebrates the fact that some of the best movies were originally from books.  I’m going to share a few of my favorites with you, and there will be a great U.S.  giveaway at the end of this post!  Plus, you will want to hop on for the chance to win even more!

Did you know this film was based on The Trapp Family Singers?  Yes, a lot in the film is true, and Maria von Trapp herself was pretty pleased with it.  It is one of my favorite movies from of all time.

This movie was based on Ian Fleming’s children’s book of the same name.  This is one time I can say that the film is better than the book.

This Mary Poppins is quite different from the one created by P.L. Travers, but I still love this musical.  Mary Poppins and Dick van Dyke are some of my favorites.

I never have read the Nicholas Sparks book, but I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it.  I still cry every time.

A cinematographic masterpiece even though the book is better.  A real classic!

And I’m just getting started.  I could have listed Phantom of the Opera, The Hunger Games, To Kill a Mockingbird and more!  I absolutely love seeing good film versions of books.

So what can you win?  This is only open to my U.S. readers due to many variables, but don’t worry.  There will be more international giveaways coming up soon!  One U.S. entrant will win a book that has been made into a movie, a movie that was based on a book, or a combo (cannot cost more than $20).  All you need to do is enter the rafflecopter below by 9  P.M. on September 3, and you are in to win!  And don’t forget to hop on!

My favorite book was made into an excellent movie: Stephen King’s The Stand. I’m excited that my daughter is finally old enough to read the book, then watch the movie!

My favorite book to movie is actually the LOTR trilogy. I loved the books and was so excited when I heard they were making a trilogy that I bought tix for FOTR the day they went on presale (for the midnight showing of course). I was not disappointed! Peter Jackson did a phenomenal job of bringing all three books to life. I have read LOTR at least 10 times, and I have seen the movies at least twice as many time.

Definite favorite book-to-movie is Lord of the Rings. If I win, I’d pick Divergent.

It has been so many years since I have read or watched Gone With The Wind that I had forgotten these, the movie and the book were wonderful. I think one of my favorites is the Lord of the Ring series on film, the books while very good were not as mentally visual as the big screen. Thank you for participating in the fun.

I would say The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings –- I been wanting to read the book but havent yet

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is one of the few movies that I thought stood up decently to the book. It’s hard to cram a book of hundreds of pages into a couple hour long movie, but this one did a decent job. 🙂
