books to moviesWelcome to the Books to Movies Giveaway Hop hosted by Bookhounds and I Am a Reader, Not a Writer.  This is fantastic hop that celebrates the fact that some of the best movies were originally from books.  I’m going to share a few of my favorites with you, and there will be a great U.S.  giveaway at the end of this post!  Plus, you will want to hop on for the chance to win even more!

Did you know this film was based on The Trapp Family Singers?  Yes, a lot in the film is true, and Maria von Trapp herself was pretty pleased with it.  It is one of my favorite movies from of all time.

This movie was based on Ian Fleming’s children’s book of the same name.  This is one time I can say that the film is better than the book.

This Mary Poppins is quite different from the one created by P.L. Travers, but I still love this musical.  Mary Poppins and Dick van Dyke are some of my favorites.

I never have read the Nicholas Sparks book, but I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it.  I still cry every time.

A cinematographic masterpiece even though the book is better.  A real classic!

And I’m just getting started.  I could have listed Phantom of the Opera, The Hunger Games, To Kill a Mockingbird and more!  I absolutely love seeing good film versions of books.

So what can you win?  This is only open to my U.S. readers due to many variables, but don’t worry.  There will be more international giveaways coming up soon!  One U.S. entrant will win a book that has been made into a movie, a movie that was based on a book, or a combo (cannot cost more than $20).  All you need to do is enter the rafflecopter below by 9  P.M. on September 3, and you are in to win!  And don’t forget to hop on!

I really enjoyed the movie version of Lord of the Rings. The book was great, but it’s taxing to read.

My favorite movie based on a book is Harry Potter. If I won, I would probably choose The Sound of Music on DVD (and the book, if they both fit in the $20 price limit).

My favorite movies based on books would have to be Harry Potter. Not sure what book I’d pick if I won.

Unfortunately, most books are much better than the movie adaptation. Some of that is necessary for brevity and because it is a different medium. Typically a short story would have a truer movie adaptation. One of the more recent novels-to-movie adaptations that I enjoyed was “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Interestingly, I thought the movie was better in some parts, but the book was much better overall. The other two book in the series are better than the first. I’ve seen the Sweedish movie version of the trilogy and was disappointed in the adaptations.

Gone With the Wind was the first book to movie that I fell in love with. Next was The Phantom of the Opera, and as time has gone by, the list has become endless. I was thrilled to find out that they’re making a movie adaptation of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn… can’t wait to see it! 🙂
