Ooka Island is a fun Pre-K (starting as young as age 3) to 2nd Grade learn-to-read program for PC and Mac. It features a Home Edition, School Edition, and Homeschool Edition. It is a fun way for kids to learn phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Their goal is to teach children to learn to read fluently and well through online instruction that is fun and interesting.

Emilee from Pea of Sweetness had a chance to review Ooka Island last summer and was so impressed with how much her kids enjoyed it and how well they were doing with it. While I am not familiar with this particular program, I know that when my daughter was learning to read, technology was essential.  And I believe that it is even more so that way now–six or seven years later.  Reading is a skill that children need, and anything you can do to pique their interest and give them plenty of practice is a fantastic idea!
