The Seeds of Beauty: Defining Your Beauty and Style from the Inside Out by Lakeysha-Marie Green
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book has two parts, and if I had been reviewing just the first part, this would have been a resounding 5-star review. The first portion of the book is uplifting, inspirational, and reminds us that true beauty comes from within. I read a multitude of no-nonsense statements and ideas that reminded me of how important it is to celebrate who I am. The chapters were short, and there were applicable assignments that appeared to be more than “busy work.” I will be honest that I didn’t actually sit down and do the assignments in a journal or on paper, but the ones that really caught my attention were at least attempted within my head.
When I got the second part of the book, I truly struggled to relate to this portion. I am not a fashionista although I like looking my best. I appreciate the fact that she added more body shape types than are typically seen from the beauty world, and she had some fantastic advice for women who wish to dress well. The drawings included were very well done, but adding color would have helped to illustrate some of her points.
Although this is a book that is well-written, free of profanity and sex, and intensely practical, I felt as though the two parts of the book did not seem to fit together as well as I would have liked. I comprehend the progression between the sections, but I would have liked to have seen more correlations drawn rather than just a fashion encyclopedia. As far as these kinds of books go, this is certainly the best, and I would recommend it to those who are seeking genuine fashion advice. (I will be honest–I didn’t agree with a lot of the advice, but that has nothing to do with my review.)
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
