This past summer, I had the supreme opportunity of virtually interviewing the wives of the recently-canceled INSP reality show entitled The Cowboy Way. While this show will not have any new seasons, the lives of these families will continue, and you never know what the future holds for them. It is my delight and honor to present to you the three wives of the show–Kaley, Misty, and Jaclyn.
RH: Please introduce yourself to the readers.
Kaley
Kaley: Hey guys! I’m Kaley Thompson, from the INSP television series, The Cowboy Way, wife to Bubba Thompson and mother of two wonderful children.
Misty: Hi! My name is Misty Harris. I am wife to Cody Harris, and mother to Carter. You may have seen me on the TV show, The Cowboy Way, on INSP.
Jaclyn: I’m Jaclyn Brown, wife of Booger Brown, and mom to Matthew. I am a pharmacist and a cast member on The Cowboy Way.
How did you get connected with the show The Cowboy Way?
Misty
Kaley: Bubba and I were dating when we got the call about The Cowboy Way pilot. We decided it was something that we wanted to move forward on together.
Misty: My connection with the show, The Cowboy Way, came by default of being married to Cody.
Jaclyn: I became involved with the show, The Cowboy Way, after I met Booger. We were being filmed when we met for the first time. I didn’t know what to think, but we really hit it off. As our relationship grew, we ended up getting engaged, having a wedding, and I moved to Alabama. Our entire relationship has been captured on film, as we have been filming The Cowboy Way since we met.
What have been some of your favorite behind-the-scenes stories from the show?
Jaclyn
Kaley: Personally, I just love any and all storylines that include the kids. Of course, filming with children is much harder, but I love having that footage.
Misty: I have had such a fun, memorable time on the show! It truly is a unique experience and there are many behind-the-scenes stories to tell, but my favorites are when I get to ride on horseback. We were actually organizing the livestock in preparation for the rodeo that Cody and I produce, and Cody asked me to get on his horse and move some stock. So without hesitation, I did, and of course not two minutes later, his horse starts to buck. And he was not just playing; he tried his best to buck me off in front of the cast and film crew, and that’s when the cowgirl in me really came out! I rode him out of the buck and everyone cheered, but no one filmed it. Just my luck!
Jaclyn: There are many behind-the-scenes moments that I treasure, but one that stands out is my wedding day. Our lives had been a whirlwind of activity since the day we met, because I was working full-time as a pharmacist when we were filming the first two seasons. The morning of my wedding was special because all of my family and friends were there as we got ready, and it wasn’t rushed or stressful. It stormed that morning, but right before the wedding, it cleared up and was beautiful. I will always look back on that day and smile.
Since The Cowboy Way is a reality show, what is it really like being a part of the filming of this show? What is the best part? What is the most challenging?
Kaley: Before being on the show I had NO CLUE what all went into making a show, and it still fascinates me. The best part for me, is that we get all of our “big moments” caught on camera. Our daughter’s birth, birthdays, pregnancy, etc. The worst part is the crazy schedule that comes with filming and trying to stay on top of all the normal day-to-day things, in addition to filming a season.
Misty: The best part of being involved with a reality show are the comments of encouragement and appreciation that we get from our fans. The most challenging part is balancing normal life during filming. There are still chores to be done for our cattle operation, Full Moon Cattle, regardless of our film schedule.
Jaclyn & Family
Jaclyn: Filming a reality show has its ups and downs. Thankfully, since it is a reality show, a lot of the times you just have to live your normal life with a film crew there. It can get stressful though because my husband has such a vital role in making sure the show is entertaining and interesting. He has a lot of irons in the fire, with horse training, cattle work and basically just keeping the wheels turning with production. The best part is that it gives us a platform to be able to help others. The most challenging part would be balancing the things that are important to me with our current obligations.
What would you like to see featured on another season of The Cowboy Way?
Kaley: Possibly a storefront opening for my clothing boutique, The White Magnolia. We currently operate strictly online, but a brick and mortar store would be so much fun and a great thing to feature.
Misty: I personally would like for us to be seen exploring cattle operations in a different country!
Jaclyn: I would absolutely love to be able to find the perfect property for our family to build our home and for Booger to get his horse facilities. That would be a very interesting season, to be able to share with everyone all that we have up our sleeves!

Why do you believe The Cowboy Way has continued to have such a strong following?
Kaley: I think our viewers love the fact that our show is wholesome, clean and family-friendly. It’s hard to find something you can watch with your children these days.
Misty: I believe The Cowboy Way has continued to grow its followers because we offer good, clean entertainment that the entire family can sit down and enjoy together.
Jaclyn: I feel that The Cowboy Way continues to have so much support for two reasons: first, because it is rare to find a show where people aren’t afraid to talk about their faith in Jesus; secondly, our viewers never have to turn the channel quickly when their children walk in the room. In fact, most families watch it together without any fear of foul language or indecency. These qualities are hard to come by in these times.
How have you kept yourself and your family occupied during this international crisis?
Kaley: We have a newborn son, so we were basically already living under quarantine prior to the epidemic. Things are never dull with a 3-year-old and a newborn.

Misty: I can honestly say that the one thing we have changed during this time of crisis is isolating our family from others. Other than that, we have stayed busy taking care of our cattle operation as usual.
Jaclyn: My family has had no problem staying occupied. I’m still working at a hospital two days a week and Booger has plenty of horses to train. Now I’m having to complete Matthew’s schooling at home, so we stay busy. Booger is usually gone before I wake up, then Matthew gets breakfast and starts school. I clean house (constantly!) and help Matthew. Then he will play outside and I work in my garden. When Booger finishes work, we usually check cows and ride four-wheelers. We have been cooking a lot and Booger has pitched in on dishes a few times. We miss our friends and family, but this is a unique opportunity for our family because we have been on the go since we met. I think it’s making us stronger.
Sometimes reality shows get spinoff series. If this happened for you, what would be your focus?
Kaley: Bubba and I love building things together and putting a rustic/western spin on them, so it would be something related to that (home renovations, custom furniture, etc.), or a food-related show. Bubba and I LOVE to cook and eat. We enjoy being creative with food, and testing things out, but we also love trying new foods every time we travel. If it’s a road trip, our route is solely based on restaurants we want to hit along the way! We are true foodies!

Misty: My husband and I truly believe that any door that opens or closes for us is from God, and we put our focus on Him and where He wants us to be.
Jaclyn: If we got a spin-off, I could envision a few possibilities. One would be Booger branching out on an intense horse training operation. We want state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to take in more horses than we can at the moment. This will be the first thing we will do when we get property. We will have to hire help, and Booger definitely will take his training to the next level. The show could highlight his skills and show the progression of his horses. He and his clients could take these horses to nationwide competitions to showcase their skills. Even the day-to-day operations would be very interesting for viewers.
Another possibility I see in our future would be opening up a boys (or girls) ranch facility where we host families and children that need homes. Booger feels like he has been called to do this, even though we aren’t sure of the timeline. We have discussed adopting, and I can see this scenario in our future.

Any aspirations beyond The Cowboy Way in the film/TV industry?
Kaley: If one of the shows similar to what I mentioned above came into fruition, then yes, I would do something else in the TV industry.
Misty: It has been a dream of mine, even prior to being on TV, to write a children’s book. I am happy to say that it is finally in the works!
Jaclyn: I am perfectly content being a pharmacist, wife and mom. However, any opportunity that Booger gets, I will support him one hundred percent, so I can’t rule out more endeavors in the television industry.
While this show was not renewed, there are seven seasons of this family-friendly reality show. Moreover, this show can be streamed in various places through a wide variety of services.
