During this time of uncertainty and negativity that threatens to overwhelm us, there is nothing like a quality television show or movie with uplifting content and sweet storylines. Sometimes it can be difficult to find such content in spite of a plethora of streaming content and cable/network shows that are available, but it just so happens that Sam Haskell is one such executive producer whose Magnolia Productions has made it a priority to do just that. Over the past few years, his company has produced such amazing shows and movies such as Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, the Christmas sequel to that film, and the Netflix series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings.

DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS

Back in 2015, I was pleased to be able to see the network premiere of this autobiographical film of Dolly Parton’s based on her very popular song, Coat of Many Colors. While I was aware of some of the struggles of Dolly’s early life, this movie brought everything to life in such a beautiful way. Jennifer Nettles and Ricky Schroeder, but the scene-stealer was the young actress who played Dolly herself as a little girl, Alyvia Alyn Lind. If you are looking for a movie that will remind you that dreams do come true, love is the answer, and the spirit of humankind is resilient, this is the movie to watch. Be sure that you bring tissues!

DOLLY PARTON’S CHRISTMAS OF MANY COLORS: CIRCLE OF LOVE

Riding on the coattails of the first film, this Christmas tale had an even more amazing tale to tell. Our favorite characters returned to detail yet another story of hope, love, and miracles. Jennifer, Ricky, and Alyvia returned to tug at our emotions yet again, and this story is one that the whole family will love at Christmastime or any time of year!

DOLLY PARTON’S HEARTSTRINGS

If you happen to have access to Netflix, more than likely you have heard of Ms. Parton’s highly successful series called Heartstrings. This is just the kind of content that we need during this time of hopelessness and bad news everywhere you turn. Viewers will be taken on journeys that coincide with some of Dolly’s most beloved songs of all-time. While not every story may be appropriate for every family, it certainly makes sense to seek out shows just like these inspiring tales during this time of difficulty.

Now while these are the main movies and shows that are available now from Magnolia Productions, I just did some checking and discovered that we are supposed to see Dolly Parton in a new Christmas movie on Netflix later this year! I can only hope that is true because there is nothing much better than Dolly Parton, a heartwarming Christmas tale, a few songs, and a means of escape from the cruel world.

I would love to be able to read some of your recommendations for shows and movies that have kept you sane during this time. I believe this pandemic crisis would have been much more unbearable without the wealth of entertainment out there to keep us entertained.
