The world of entertainment is filled with a mixed variety of genres. For the sci-fi lovers, movies like The Interstellar take the lead. While for action fanatics, Mission Impossible and Top Gun remain classics. But there’s one genre that might seem overshadowed is an Academy Awards favorite – the slice of life genre. Movies with simple yet heartwarming plots are what articulate the genre into existence. And there are many Hollywood classics and recent additions that have given this genre true justice.

The good news is that you can easily find most of these titles across streaming platforms. All you’d require is a stable internet connection which providers like Buytvinternetphone already confer in the U.S. Now with that settled, here are 5 of the best slice of movie titles you should watch at least once.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Deemed as one of Tom Hank’s best works, Forrest Gump will forever be a classic in Hollywood. The movie secured itself 6 Oscars and 74 nominations at other award shows. Forrest Gump is a simple story. It doesn’t have any plot twists nor do you have to rewind each interval to make sense of the story. In all its originality, the movie is about a young Alabaman man, with an IQ of 75, who doesn’t let his disabilities take the best of him. He joins the army, joins a fishing crew and even runs a marathon, but his only desire is to reunite with his childhood sweetheart.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Nominated for 1 Oscar, the Pursuit of Happyness is what you call a rollercoaster of emotions. A salesman is facing hurdles in making ends meet but now with the custody of his son, he has to work extra hard to build and sustain his son’s future. He decides to change his profession into one that’s far more lucrative however, it’s no easy feat. The entire movie revolves around the salesman, his son and his life-changing journey.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)

What’s Eating Gilbert Grapes stars two notable Hollywood actors, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie was nominated for 1 Oscar and has won 8 other titles, as well. What seems like a family movie in the beginning turns out to be a strained family bond. DiCaprio plays Depp’s mentally impaired younger brother who he is responsible to look after. But his responsibilities don’t end there. Their mother, a widow, who has now become unhealthily obese, is also a liability on Depp. The story centers on the harshness of poverty as well as the strife to never giving up on one’s own happiness.

The Terminal (2004)

If bad luck had an existence, it would be of Victor Navorski. Stranded at the JFK airport, Navorski flees his country in hopes of a new life but things don’t go as he expected. The government of his city breakdowns and his passport and papers don’t hold any validity anymore. Now he has to stay at the airport until a miracle finds its way to him.

Fluke (1995)

The 1995 drama movie has a simple storyline. Based on a novel by James Herbert, Fluke revolves around the story of a man who loses his life in a car accident. But little does he know that he will be reincarnated as a dog. This reincarnation gives him the chance to meet with his family once again.

All in all

The slice of life genre remains a favorite in Hollywood as well as on an international level. In the anime industry, it’s quite common to find titles that belong to the slice of life genre. We hope to see Hollywood giants to pay more heed to the genre so that classics similar to Forrest Gump and Fluke emerge as well.
