Can Dreams Come True? (The Cecily Taylor Series #1)
Summary:
Cecily has always had a huge crush on singer Andrew Holiday and she wants to be an actress, so she tags along when her friend auditions for his new video. However, the director isn’t looking for an actress, but rather the girl next door—and so is Andrew. Cecily gets a part in the video and all of Andrew’s attention on the set. Her friend begins to see red and Cecily’s boyfriend is seeing green—as in major jealousy. A misunderstanding leaves Cecily and her boyfriend on the outs and Andrew hopes to pick up the pieces as he’s looking for someone more stable in his life than the models he’s dated. Soon Cecily begins to realize Andrew understands her more than her small-town boyfriend—but can her perfect love match really be her favorite rock star?

In Over Her Head: Lights, Camera, Anxiety by Krysten Lindsay Hager
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
First of all, I did not read the first book in the series, but I am well aware of Krysten Lindsay Hager (although this is the first book of hers that I am officially reviewing). When it comes to Young Adult books, this is the author to choose. There is NOTHING inappropriate in this book of hers, and I believe that teenage girls searching for “chick lit” that appeals to their age will find these stories fun and relatable. Clean young adult books are often hard to come by, but this author has done it and done it well!
I could tell I was missing a few details since I didn’t read the first book in the series, but I did not mark the book down for this at all. Regardless, the author does a fantastic job of “catching the readers up” on this story of Cecily (who is a charming young girl). Krysten’s writing style is readable and light, and that correlates perfectly with this genre.
I gave the book a 4.5 rating because I felt it was strong, fun and witty. The characters tackled the deep issues of relationships, and everything was basically upbeat. But for my romances–young adult or otherwise–I merely prefer even more “meat,” so to speak. Cecily’s personality and antics were sometimes a bit much for me (and they would have been in my teenage years as well), but that is the only minor criticism I have.
A huge compliment I will pass along to Krysten is this. I am not in a relationship of any kind (nor do I desire to be), but her writing evoked unbidden memories that were sweet and made me feel a bit wistful and nostalgic. It’s not every author of any genre who can cause me to pause and dwell on those memories I hadn’t considered for quite some time. This demonstrates to me that Krysten has a definite flair for telling romantic tales in a style that resonates with the heart and soul of the readers. Well done!
