Book Excerpts
Eira paused, considering his request. He seemed human enough, but it was a risk. He could steal her food, hurt her, or take her precious fuel. She weighed her options quickly. Loneliness won out over caution, but she wasn’t stupid. She clenched her gun as she waved him in.

I like to see deer.

When walking in the woods, I like to see the animals preferably from a safe distance. The Nature Center has chipmunks, squirrels, dear and plenty of birds including red-winged blackbirds, downy woodpeckers, cardinals and wild canaries (goldfinch), owls, hawks, mallard ducks, wood ducks, Canadian Geese. Once I saw a weasel by the brook where I was writing poetry. My 5 kids took classes there for preschool and explored the “muscle” tree, which looked like it was rippled with muscles, and the “Friendship” tree, which had an opening to reach through and shake hands with someone on the other side of the tree. They learned at a young age to become stewards of nature.
