Are Whole House Filters Worth It? Costs & Benefits

Are you considering fitting a whole house water filter? You’ll have already discovered that this is a more expensive option than simply fitting an under sink filter.

However, this doesn’t mean it’s not worth it!

It is first important to understand that the cost of your water filtration system will depend on your exact needs and the house you live in. In fact, costs can range from as little as $400 to as much as $10,000.

When you’re spending out this sort of funds you need to know that you have the best water filters in Sydney and that the benefits outweigh the costs.

Fortunately, there are several excellent benefits associated with a whole house filter system:

Safe Drinking Water

One under sink filter will remove the potentially harmful chemicals from your water. However, if you or a member of your family forgets to use the right tap you’re not going to get this benefit.

A whole house system eliminates this issue as the water from every tap is filtered.

Sediment Removal

The sediment that settles during the treatment process is removed. Unfortunately, your water can pick up more as it travels through the pipes to your home. A standard under sink filter will not remove sediment, rust or even scale.

Your whole house system will; making your water even safer to drink.

Skin Absorption

Did you realize that you absorb all sorts of chemicals and other compounds through your skin? Although your skin is waterproof the cells are designed to allow toxins out and goodness in. This can also let chlorine from untreated water into your body; especially when you’re showering.

The warmth of the water actually opens your pores and makes it easier for unwanted compounds to enter your body.

A whole house system eliminates this issue. An under sink filter will protect you from drinking the chemicals used to treat water but it won’t stop you absorbing them when showering and washing.

Laundry

The same principle applies when you are doing your laundry. If the filter system is just on the one tap, then your washing machine will be soaking your clothes and bedding in potentially harmful chemicals.

You’ll then wear these clothes and the substances can enter your body as you sweat during the day.

Hard Water

Before you install a whole house system it is important to know whether you’re water is soft or hard and what specific issues you face.

This will help to ensure you choose the right filtration system for your home.

It can also reduce the hardness of your water. Hardness is linked with an increase in calcium deposits; these can partially block pipes and effect the efficient operation of any appliance.

Using a whole house water filter system will actually extend the life of your appliances; potentially saving you a large amount of money in the long-term.

It is important to note that many people now consider a whole house system as a necessity; not the luxury it once was. Can you afford to put your family at risk for any longer?

Great article. I really think whole house water filters are great for protecting water devices such as washing machines and heaters especially if you have a lot of sediments in your water. Thanks for sharing Ruth.

Husband and I are undecided about whole house or just under kitchen sink. Thanks for the info.

Just for the laundry reason alone I think a whole home filter system would be worth it!
