Water Filters: Do You Need One?

Do you ever stop to think about the water that comes out of your tap? The fact is that we take it for granted but 1 in 9 people across the world do not have access to safe drinking water.

Worse than this, the water you drink may not be as safe as you think it is.

Why Water Is Not As Clean As You Think

The water that arrives at a treatment centre can be part of the natural water cycle or it has come from our waste water. It needs to be cleaned before it can be returned to our homes.

This is achieved by pushing the water through ever decreasing sizes of filters; ensuring all the debris is removed. It then has several chemicals added to remove microbes and other dangerous bacteria.

Unfortunately, the water has a long way to travel between the treatment centre and your home. Just the smallest of cracks in a pipe can let in new bacteria and debris can be picked up from inside the pipes.

The other issue is the chemicals that are added. Chlorine and fluoride are known to have several undesirable effects on human health.

The Solution

The solution has always been the water filter. If you invest in an under sink water filter it will have a carbon filter inside a simple container. This is designed to remove debris, microbes and even the chemicals that have been added to the water.

This type of filter is also very effective at removing the odor of chemicals and helping the water to taste better. You may not notice the taste of chemicals in your water. But, once you’ve tried it through a filter you will taste the difference and won’t want to go back.

This leads to the question of how important is it for you to have a water filtration system in your home.

The Importance Of The Right System

If you value your health then it makes sense to have a water filtration system. It will remove harmful chemicals and any debris/microbes picked up on its journey. It will also give you peace of mind.

There are several different types of systems; you’ll have to choose the one that suits your needs best.

  • Under sink Units

These are the simplest and cheapest to fit. They slot under your sink and onto a branch of your water supply. They link directly to one tap; which is the one you see for drinking water and washing your food.

  • Whole House Systems

Another option is to have a larger filtration system fitted to your mains water in. This is a more complex job but means that all the water in your home will be treated.

If you are concerned about the level of chlorine entering your skin when you shower, this is a good option.

  • Alternatives

There are actually different types of filters, some are better at removing fluoride while others are effective for your needs. It is advisable to have your water tested and then choose the right filter for your water supply.

This is the best way to protect the health of you and your family.
