For anyone that decides they want to try writing, whether it is for fun or for monetary gain, I would advise a few different things to help the process both creatively, but also professionally.
The first is to get connected. It doesn’t matter if it’s through a local writers group at your library or bookstore in the town you are from, or if it’s with an online group through social media or other outlets; getting connected will help with almost everything that involves writing.
You can learn form others and pass on creative thoughts and story lines, get help with critiquing a plot or character that you are trying to build – but most of all, you can find friendship with like-minded people. Writing, even when for your own self pleasure isn’t always the easiest of tasks, therefore, finding help among other people that want to succeed like you do will be very beneficial for improvement and overall self esteem.
For those looking to be a little more hardcore about writing, these types of groups will allow you the opportunity to really find out what people think. If you want raw criticism, you can get it. If you need someone to be brutally honest with you, that in person group that you meet with will be the best place for you. Family and friends are fine for getting feedback, but trust someone you are not closely connected to for words that might sting, but also become the most constructive.
Finally, have fun with the process. Writing shouldn’t be a labor of labor (if I can say it that way). Writing should be a labor of fun, and happiness. Regardless of your writing experience, direction and motivation you should be able to feel happy about what you are doing. If you don’t – it might be time to reexamine why you write.
Jason Atkinson lives in the Midwest with his wife and son. With a love of writing, this is his 3rd book, but first book in the fiction category. Short stories are easy to digest, and yet, this book still provides all the joys for the long haul reader. Jason write for everyone in mind when creating this piece and hopes you will enjoy it as much as he did when writing it.
