banned-book-week-20141Welcome to the Banned Books Giveaway Hop hosted by I Am a Reader and BookHounds.  This is a special time of year when we remember that there are still people actively censoring books for various reasons. This is a practice that goes so totally opposite of what free speech promises.  If we permit someone to ban a book for a certain reason, before long, books will be banned for any reason.  There are a lot of books out there I would never pick up and read.  For example (and I’m sure people will be shocked at this), I would never pick up the Twilight series. I realized many do.  I wouldn’t even read Harry Potter though my daughter read the entire series. So just because I don’t like the concept or what a book entails, should it be banned? No, indeed!  I was a teacher at a school where Harry Potter was not even in the library because the librarian essentially made the decision to ban it. A new librarian took over, and she was shocked. If you don’t want to read a book, you don’t have to. And if you’re a parent, you need to be aware of and monitor what your child is reading. That’s your responsibility. Let’s not ban books!!

For my international giveaway, I am offering one book on any banned book list.  There are a load of them out here, but here is a link to some.  All you need to do is fill out the rafflecopter below by 9 P.M. on September 27, and you are in to win. Be sure to hop on for the opportunity to win even more books! Best of wishes to you!
