I received a special gift in appreciation for participating in this promotional campaign. Nonetheless, all opinions are my own.
I did not know who Sean Astin was by name, but his reputation precedes him. He is the actor from Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Rudy, and he is beginning Season two of his political radio show for “the occasionally interested people” on May 1st on a new network, TradioV. His interest in politics and representing the people’s voice is infectious, and he genuinely wants people to understand what is happening with the government, even when it seems too complicated. Whether you are or aren’t interested in politics, he offers an intellectual discussion and doesn’t just want to be heard, he wants to hear the people and their concerns, all while keeping it civil. This has been the fulfillment of a dream of his, and this is honestly the first I have heard of it. Then again, I don’t really follow radio news, but this one certainly sounds promising.
In case you didn’t know this about me, I am an unashamed conservative independent (I don’t like any of the political parties out there) who follows the news quite closely. You probably have guessed that I am a Fox News Fan (I only discovered them when I moved back with my parents–before that, I watched only local Fox news in Texas and occasionally CNN). In fact, I have Red Eye on in the background as I am writing that. If you knew me at all, you might find that a strange choice, but I am somewhat of a contradiction when it comes to my news tastes.
There was period of time in my life (in my 20’s) that I did not follow the news much at all. As I have gotten older, I have begun to realize that being informed is a good thing. I am a Christian, and in order to be fully prepared to live in this world, I need to know what is going on. I’m not going to get caught up in the “hot button” issues. You can guess where I stand on them, but it does not mean that I have a problem with differing views. Everyone is entitled to their views, but I ask for tolerance. I will be tolerant of your views, but I expect the same for mine. I grow increasingly tired of the extreme liberals insisting that everyone agrees with their views. I think one of the things that sets the U.S. apart is that we are a diverse nation who welcomes every viewpoint imaginable. While I believe that some things do need to be regulated and approached with caution, everyone is entitled to their opinions! And it sounds like Sean Astin feels the same way.
