Mental health hopWelcome to another fantastic giveaway hop.  This is hosted by I Am a Reader & Reading in Twilight.  I was married to a man who was (is) mentally ill, and he was only recently in a mental hospital.  This issue touches me.  His brother died due to instabiity caused by mental illness, and I saw some of the horrors of severe depression and bipolar disorder up close.  I always say that I got out before anything could happen to me, and it saddens me so much that my ex refuses to take advantage of medication–he believes he is fine.  Whenever I hear horrific stories about wives/girlfriends and/or children killed by men (who were mentally ill but no action was taken), I always thank the Lord that I got out when I did.  I can’t imagine my ex going down that road, but I certainly was not going to be a statistic.

Goodness, I have to list an uncommon book here that really touched me and minimally deals with some characters who suffer from mental illness.  It still rates as a top book for me:  Sierra by Taylor Dean.

SierraRead my 5-star review here.

So, my giveaway will be any book that features a mentally ill character or deals with this serious topic.  The giveaway is international, and all you need to do is enter the rafflecopter below.  Then hop on!  But be sure to enter all giveaways by March 27–you don’t want to miss out!

I love Joyce Meyer’s books – her most famous being “Battlefield of the Mind” she also has a follow-up for Teens as well.

I’m not sure what book I would choose but this is a very important topic for me. There is mental illness on both sides of my family so this is something that has been present my entire life. Thank you for taking part in the hop to help bring attention to this important issue!

Everyone in my family has dealt with mental health professionals at one time or another. I think it’s healthy for people to go. I go to deal with chronic pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia. I don’t know what book I would want.

I finished “I Know This Much Is True” by Wally Lamb. Excellent book.

I think I’d get Splintered, since the main character does think she’s insane, and her mother was also recognized as ‘insane’.

Maybe The Good Luck of Right Now. 😉

I’d like to keep an option open as to which book I’d choose. I’ve worked with a voluntary mental health support group dealing with mainly suicide in Sri Lanka for 14 years.

I really haven’t had to deal with something so tragic. Since you liked the book Sierra I would love to read it. Thanks for the giveaway, and I am sorry that this illness had to touch your life. I hope your future continues to be bright and thank you for sharing.

Unfortunately mental illness runs rampant in our Family which points to the genetic factors of the disease. It can be one of the most devastating disorders to cope with, leaving you to feel quite helpless at times.

  22. I liked Pushing the Limits by katie McGarry. Mostly the know more about the problems the mother of the main character has.
    Thanks for the giveaway 😉
