With the current economy, lots of people are starting to pinch pennies and save more cash. Shopping for new winter clothes might put a dent in your savings. However, if you shop the right way, your savings will be intact and you’ll have plenty of winter wear! Here are some tips to help you save on winter clothing:
1. Check for coupons before you shop.
Don’t just blindly go to the mall without knowing what’s on sale, and which stores you should head for! Use a coupon code website before hand to find the best deals in stores. This will help save you money and time—you only have to shop at the places you have the coupons for!
2. Don’t buy designer.
Of course, it’s tempting to go for the name-brand boots, the expensive scarves, and the designer jeans. But, by buying store brands or less expensive brands, you will get basically the same product, but for a lot cheaper.
3. Go through your closet first.
Have you ever stood in a store, convincing yourself that you need those new jeans, only to get home and find a pair in the back of your closet? To avoid overspending on items you already have, thoroughly go through your closet before you shop!
4. Set limits.
Bring a set amount of cash into the store with you, or only put a certain amount of money on your debit card. If you are aware that you have a price range, you’ll be aware of when your purchasing starts to become unreasonable and way over budget.
5. Buy clothes that you can wear for more than one season.
By buying clothes such as layering tanks and versatile accessories, you will be set for more than one season and won’t have to break the bank every time the weather changes. Of course, some items won’t be interchangeable, but save on the ones that are!
6. Make a list.
Think about the items you need before you leave home, and make a list. As you pick up these necessary clothing items as you shop, mark them off the list. When you’ve bought everything on your list, you’re done! This will help you realize when you’re about to spend your hard-earned money on something you don’t really need.
7. Ditch the credit cards.
If possible, try to pay in cash while buying your winter clothing. If you actually see all of the money you’re spending, you’ll be encouraged to spend less. With a credit card, you really don’t “see” how much money you’re spending—until you get the bill!
8. Shop at the right places.
This goes along with the first tip, about coupons! Don’t buy your winter parka at a high-priced boutique, or your shoes at a designer store. Shop where you know you’ll get the best deal, where you have coupons for, and where you’ll save the most money.
