I cannot guarantee this information is fully accurate, but it would appear to be so. On this date in 1965, Cuba and America agreed to officially run the “Freedom Flight” program which brought Cuban refugees to this country. It had already been going on for a decade before this time, but this allowed 250,000 Cuban immigrants to legally enter this country. Twice daily five times a week, a passenger plane would leave Miami, Florida and come back with about 85 passengers–mostly families with children. It was a program that ended in 1971.
