I am so grateful that today’s feature happened! On this date in 1955, the Tappan Stove Company introduced the first microwave oven for home use. This early model sold for $1295. The first food to be deliberately cooked on this appliance was popcorn followed closely by an egg (which exploded). It is now estimated that ninety percent of Americans own microwaves.

I had no idea they were invented that long ago! I thought they were commercially available to the general public in the early 80’s! They were huge and heavy!!!
