The Rising Wind by Ken Floro III
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
When it comes to fantasy fiction, I never know for certain whether I will like it or not. Fantasy is a relatively new genre for me, but no matter my personal preferences, I can often appreciate the ability of the author to tell a story. And I can say that although this book’s story was not one that completely captivated me, as far as fantasy goes, it was well-written. It is a typical fantasy book, but I think that is what makes it so compelling. You can rest assured that there is no sex nor gratuitous violence within this book, and the profanity is extremely minimal. This would make it an excellent selection for most teens who enjoy fantasy fiction.
Since this is the first in a series, the author was very smart in introducing characters with depth and a story that continually surprises you on each page. Fair warning to the reader–if you like this story, you will absolutely have to read the next book in the series. You may find yourself upset when you reach the end of the book. In some ways, I actually have a desire to read the next chapter even though this book is not for me. It takes a proficient author to bring that sort of reaction out of me, so my hat is definitely off to him.
The only thing I really had wished was that the love story had been a little more prominent. I often find myself more endeared to books where the female characters figure into the storyline more than just a moment. There is only one female character, and all the other characters are masculine. I realize that the author is male, but this is just a preference of mine. Without a doubt, I can recommend this book to fantasy lovers everywhere.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Sounds like a really good book. I love that most characters are male, will make for a new experience for me. Thank you so much!

Another great review, Ruth. Seems a lot of bloggers want more femininity in Rising Wind. Perhaps, the author will consider giving the girls their own book! Thank you for participating in this tour and for taking a moment to cross-post your review to Amazon and GoodReads when you have the time. Also, don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter and random commenter contests!
