Jesus, Mo and Cheese Puffs by Lisa Boucher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I have to admit that I wasn’t too sure about this book based on the title alone. But let me tell you–from the moment I began reading the book, I was enthralled and knew this would be a top-rated book on my shelf. The characters are older but vibrant (actually, they are my parents’ ages, so I could relate quite well). The author throws you into the story with a vengeance, and there is an incredible amount of loose ends that eventually get tied up in the most unusual ways.
This book is definitely clean. You won’t find any real profanity (a few minor words here and there), and there are no sex scenes. Don’t expect a doddering, old couple–Flo and Mo are amazingly sharp, quick-witted, and madly in love with each other (even after the age of 70!). The story line is gripping and readable while still simple and down-to-earth.
I truly appreciated the inspirational aspects of this story. I won’t call this a Christian book, but it is definitely God-friendly and full of real truth. Flo is staunchly devoted to God, and it is real with her. Her husband, Mo, struggles with his faith for a number of reasons, but at the end of the story, I believe they reach a similar conclusion. It was so refreshing to see a woman who lives out her faith in every situation, and the book was truly a blessing to me. What would I do if the same surprise happened to me suddenly like it did to them? And if I had the chance to change something about me that I didn’t like, would I take an extreme step? I am quite convinced that I would not have reached the conclusion that Mo and Flo did, but their decision truly inspires me.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
