TV’s Top 10 Most Unconventional Moms from beth Feldman on Vimeo.

So what was your most unconventional moment or irreverent time as a mom?  Hopefully none of these moms featured in this video hit home.  Actually, I feel better about my confession.  That’s right–you know that all of us moms have done things that we haven’t been proud of.  And I’ll tell you mine.   And I have to add that I think I sometimes still do this.

I am a teacher, and I have seen the kids who have those parents that send every mom running for cover.  You know what I mean–the mom that is always up at the school in the teacher’s face guaranteeing that her child is being treated right, and of course, HER child is never the problem.  Well, I didn’t want a child like that, so I made up my mind to NOT be that mom.  And not just at school but in every aspect of her life.

When my daughter was about four, her aunt entered her in a kids horse competition.  She didn’t spend a lot of time practicing–she tended to lose interest.  She actually got to be in two separate competitions.  The first one was easy.  She was only one of two, and so she won.  The second one was not so easy.  She had gotten kind of cocky, and we all warned her.  There were several in the competition, and she did not do as well.  And guess who got happy and cheered on the judges for not letting her child win.  Me!!  That’s right!  Why would a mom do that?  I honestly had her best interest at heart.  I sometimes still get too excited when she doesn’t come in first.

There is a new show coming to CBS on September 23 at 9:30 ET/8:30 CT that should make all of us feel somewhat better about our mom mistakes.  Check out the preview below. (Moms, make sure the little kids are in bed first–this is an adult show, and it may offend some more sensitive viewers.)

MOMMOM is a comedy from executive producer Chuck Lorre starring Anna Faris as a newly sober single mom raising two children in a world full of temptations and pitfalls, and multiple Emmy Award winner Allison Janney as her critical, estranged mother. Christy is a waitress at a posh Napa Valley establishment who is four months clean and doing her best to be a good mom and overcome a history of questionable choices. Her sobriety is tested when her recovering alcoholic mom Bonnie reappears, chock-full of passive-aggressive insights into Christy’s many mistakes.  Bonnie joins Christy’s already complicated circle of relationships: her handsome, married boss – and lover – Gabriel; the restaurant’s hot-tempered chef, Rudy; her pretty, 16-going-on-25-year old daughter, Violet; her sweet but overly honest son, Roscoe; her irresponsible ex and Roscoe’s father, Baxter; and Violet’s clueless boyfriend, Luke. Christy tries to remain positive as she pursues her new path in life, but she faces an uphill battle, surrounded by a dubious support system – and a copious amount of dysfunction.   Premieres Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, on the CBS Television Network.
