I was grateful to know that the Smithsonian verifies this information. On this date in 1930, the very first supermarket opened in the U.S.–King Kullen. Michael J. Cullen came up with the idea, and he opened this first store of its type in Queens, New York. His concept was to offer a new kind of store where cash sales, low prices, no delivery services, and plenty of parking was a reality. This chain store is still owned by the Cullen family, and there are around 40-some stores to this day.

Such cool trivia! I had no idea that the concept existed for such a long time.
