Today’s feature has memories that go clear back to elementary school, and even as I write this, those memories are emblazoned on my brain.  On this date in 1946, George Orwell’s book Animal Farm was published in the United States.  This book was published the year before in England, but it took some time to make it to this side of the Atlantic.  I was first introduced to this story in elementary school when I got to see an animated version of the book.  It was high school before I read the book, but I have never forgotten its lessons.  In case you’re interested, I also read 1984.  Both are fantastic books, and their ideas are a part of our culture.  I prefer this book because it is less jarring and has no profanity or sex.  But, of course, 1984 introduced us to the idea of “Big Brother” which has become a reality in today’s world.
