My Website Struggles

Yes, this was me yesterday, definitely!  If you noticed (and you probably did), my website was offline most of yesterday.  Here’s the real story of what happened.  Are you ready?

I woke up, and things were fine.  I was busy posting my “history” post, and things were normal.  It said I needed to update one of my trusted plugins, so I did.  I hit “publish” on my post, and then all you-know-what broke loose!  I went to my website, and all I saw were titles with no posting information!  I did everything I could, and I suspected that the updated plugin did it.  I tried to go to my admin panel on my host server, but I just couldn’t remember what to do.  So I decided to set it aside and come back later.  So I went on with my day.

Following my Bible study yesterday morning, my mom said a call came from hosting company.  I checked my e-mail, and they said they put a temporary block on my account because it took too much “CPU’s.”  In other words, my site was loading too slowly and putting too much strain on their servers.  I got on and chatted with an agent, and they said it should be up and running soon.  They said what plugin I needed to have, and so I went to the store.  The e-mail I received said it was up and running, but it wasn’t!

So I chatted again.  They gave me limited access so I could fix it.  I took all the needed steps, but they said it still wasn’t good enough.  So I deactivated all the plugins, and I found out which one was causing the problem.  Last night, they completely unblocked it, and things are back to normal.  I discovered the slowness in my blog was due to a couple plugins I plan to never use again.  I apologize for the inconvenience, but my site should be running the best it ever has!

You might notice that I don’t have sharing buttons any more.  I plan to find something to take their place (that was one of my plugins that was causing the main problem), and I will not use Jet Pack any longer no matter what!  I appreciate the fact that you guys stuck with me, and I am so glad that my modifications have made things better.  Here’s hoping that my site continues to grow and that things improve immeasurably!

Oh, and by the way, at least I got this up and running much faster than when google deleted my site a few months ago!  It was worthwhile to be able to chat with actual tech people who were able to advise me as to what to do.

Looks like you got them working now. What were you using the Shareaholic ones? I had to use a super cache plugin to help my site load faster it’s still pretty slow but I am looking to move to a VPS to help. I haven’t had an issue with any sharing plug ins but I occasionally have issues with the Yoast SEO plug in

It was iShare. I saw many other people using this plugin, but it certainly didn’t like my site. Yes, Yoast was a problem for me, too.
